Well, I made it through an entire week post-New Years Eve without once giving in to the need for a second large Tim Horton's coffee. As part of my plan to get a bit richer in 2009, I decided to give up the second cup as my resolution.
Resolutions are hard to keep up, so I took the instant reward method to move mine along. The incentive is large enough for me to want to follow through and apparently I need that instant and long term reward. I get to watch my savings add up each day, week, and month now. It was savings that came from not spending coffee money, rather than trying to save new money.
Today, I am $11.48 richer and I plan to keep track in order to keep up the motivation. I like the fact that I have recovered discretionary spending money that I have been drinking up for the past few years. If I had said no to the second cup just 3 years ago I would have about $1600 right now.
Anyway, my progress continues and I have even had tea at night a few times instead of another coffee.
Is there anything you can "give up" and save the money? Think about it.

No, not really. The only other thing I can think of, is getting rid of the Direct TV, I hardly watch TV...Hubby panicked when I mentioned it (LOL). Cannot change the internet service because I work from home and have to have high speed dsl for that. But my work reimburses us part of that each month, so that helps.
Thanks for the post. Way to stick with it.
