Jessica that is a great savings with Cable. I don't think that ours would do anything like that. I called my oil company now that the oil went down and they would only cut my budget bill by $15.00 a month. I was mad as I now have a $600 credit with them and just had a delivery a week ago. Their answer was, well oil might go up again and you will need more deliveries before the winter is over.

wow! that is very cool, I had some pretty good luck getting our Direct Tv bill cut about $15/month.

I'm so happy that worked out for you. Remember that most utility companies that deal with heating have funds to help out people during bad times. Call and ask at least, the worst they can say is sorry, can't help you. I've found out since I retired on lower disability than SS, that there are a lot of programs to help out there but you have to hear about them from someone who knows or find them yourself because they don't really advertise much.

Do you know about LHEAP which is a federally funded assitance with heating costs? It's a one time payment different in different states and goes directly to your heating utility as a credit on your account. In our state your income level must be less than $18,800 for one person. That just gives you an idea. This program is usually found through a community action non-profit agency. But you could call your state human services department and they would know who does this program in your town. Don't worry, it's not charity, you pay taxes and that's where it comes from. If you qualify, you have a right to the help.

sandy, THANK YOU for that information! i am going to go look it up LHEAP right now!!!! thanks for all the well wishes everyone! i woke up this morning feeling better, and after getting half off the cable bill, i am now on a mission to lower ALL of my utilities!

Wow! We couldn't do that here. We really only have access to one electric company. I think that even if we could go with someone else they would probably charge much more.
