In this dream, I’m going on a camping trip with my sister, her family and my mother.
Instead of going in separate vehicles, I decide to rent a pickup truck with a super-extended cab, somewhat of a combination pickup and van. We place the tents and other camping gear into the bed and then cover it with a tarp.
Once I navigate the winding mountain road to the campsite, it is nearly evening, so we pitch our tents and get ready to turn in.
In the morning, the swarms of flies are so severe that we just can’t stand it. (These are full-sized houseflies.) Deciding that we were unable to enjoy our time with all those flies, we decide to break camp and go somewhere else.
On the way back down the mountain, the road comes to an end at a retirement home and a gasoline station. Hmm, obviously I missed a turn somewhere. Now, I don’t know where we are.
I decide to inquire about our location and determine if I can purchase a map at the gasoline station.
Somehow, the vehicle still has a nearly full fuel tank, even though I’ve been doing a lot of driving. The length of the vehicle prevents parking at the gasoline station and the parking lot at the retirement home is nearly empty, so I decide to park there.
Immediately, a man comes out of the retirement home and he appears to be on the staff. I ask him if it’s okay to park for a short time while I attempt to find out where I am and how to get home. He says that it’s okay and I begin to walk over to the gasoline station.
I don’t get very far before my mother declares that she would like to see what the retirement home looks like on the inside. She further implores that I go with her. I agree to accompany her.
The facility’s interior is magnificent. But, for some reason, there are absolutely no tenants present. I find myself unable to overcome the feeling that something was wrong with the scene.
My mother suddenly decides that she wants to stay there to live. Now, I’m certain that something is amiss. She has her own home and is in no need of assisted living. I find this decision of hers to be completely suspect.
I tell my mother that I would like her to think about it for a while before making a final decision. I suspect that the place might be sending out some form of neurological signal to attract senior citizens and would like to get far enough away that we are out of range of such a signal that it wouldn’t affect her. She counters that I’m prone to getting lost and I might not be able to find the place again. I reply that I’ll get the address so she could find it herself if she needs to.
Meanwhile, my nephew has discovered a big hole behind the parking lot and wants to explore it. I walk over to it and get intrigued myself.
The hole is cavernous and has a curved wall around the far end, forming a semicircle. The near end is open and fully accessible. There are also two closed doors within the curved wall, one on the left side and another in the middle of the far end.
My sense of adventure gets the best of me. Now thinking of this situation somewhat like a video game, I decide that the way to go is through the far door, as it is more unreachable. I walk over to the left-hand side of the wall and find that I’m able to reach the doorknob of the door on that side - okay, too easy.
Noticing that I can now see the floor of the hole and it’s not all that deep, I decide that we can climb down to the bottom and then back up to the far door to see what’s on the other side.
The sides of the hole are vertical, yet jagged, with plenty of footholds and handholds, so we easily access its depth. Upon reaching the bottom, an opening beneath the far door, leading into a tunnel, becomes apparent.
I walk over to the opening, poke my head through and then look up. Therein is enough light to see the far side of the door, so there is no need to climb up to reach it.
My nephew is now standing next to me, so we proceed into the tunnel. Only a few steps are needed to see that the tunnel opens up to a well-lighted area straight ahead.
Upon traversing the tunnel, we find that it leads to a beach. Peculiarly, there are many children playing on the sand and in the water. There are also three walls. Two of them, about 100 meters apart, extend out into the water. These two walls and a third wall, which we just passed through, form what resembles three sides of a room.
The right-hand wall doesn’t extend very far out, so I leave my shoes with my nephew and proceed out into the water alongside that wall. At the end of the wall, the water is only about knee-deep, but the wave action has completely soaked my pants.
I walk around the end of the wall and observe miles of open beach. With no one else there, I would have the entire beach to myself. Wonderful ... I would love to spend the next couple of days here.
Of course, it would be preferable to go around another way, rather than going through that tunnel and around the wall in the water.
I walk up the beach, adjacent to the wall, to see the accessibility from this side. I soon reach a residential neighborhood, with the backyards facing the beach.
Passing through an opening between two adjacent yards, I reach the street. Unfortunately, the street curves away where it reaches the wall. There is no observable cross street for access from where I parked.
Not wanting to walk far on the sidewalk barefooted, I decide to return to my nephew so that I can tell him what I discovered. Later, using a map, I could find a better way to get to this location.
As I walk back toward the water, I wonder if anyone would let me park in front of their house for a few days. Then, I wake up.

I haven't been keeping track of mine because I am always so busy after I get up (having to get Kyleigh breakfast and then go to school) that I don't have time to write down the notes.
