Worried About Utilities Being Cut Off

I know how you feel. Although I am not alone, Rick has been out of permanent full time work since Thanksgiving week! Talk about a heavy load for me to carry all alone! :o)

Why not drop cable to ease your stresses for now...Once your other utilities are caught up you could rent movies as you go...Hmmm I know, you didn't ask for my advice...I'm sorry you're having a hard time..

I wish you the best of luck. Call your utilities and get an extension of time to pay so that you don't have to worry about them being cut off.

sometimes youcan find local places that will help you with that sort of thing churches are willing to help in the winter months with utilities you could call and check i hope all goes well for you.

the best thing to do is to call and see if there is any way to get an extension or maybe some kind of payment plan may be available and helpfull too..........

Sorry you are going through rough times. many of my bills are late right now too.

hope things work out for you but most companies will work with you if you call them. If you call after the fact, there is nothing they can do so call before they are shut off.

I am freaking out too!! We just got a letter from our gas company saying that if it weren't this time of year our gas would be shut off right now. Our bill is almost $800. Our electric bill is now over $400, we have a mortgage payment due and we are behind on our phone and water enough that I am expecting a turn-off notice for either any day. I know I have enough for at least one of the bills but it is so stressful to choose which bills to pay.

My prayers are with you. I was layed off the Monday before Christmas. I do have some leads and think I may only miss a week or so pay. Perhaps ditch the cable if you can. I finally got mine off the contract so I have more latitude. The best advice I can give is to stay in contact with them. It always seems to go better if you can keep them as a partner rater than a enemy. Good luck

so sorry, I totally know the feeling.
We were lucky our Gas company gave us an extension, but they cannot turn us off in winter anyways. But the power people were actually kinda rude to my husband when he called to ask. He told them he could promise to pay on the 16th when he gets paid (he only gets paid once a month) and they said that would be too late. But luckilly his parents helped us out a little bit so we could pay the bill.

I hope you can get it all worked out without having anything shut off.

With this economy you are definitely NOT alone. Please do call and make arrangements, save the reconnect fees and perhaps a deposit.

That being said, our state is not doing shutoffs on utilities because of the weather. I called to see if I had to pay the gas bill since the heat assisstance payment has not arrived at the gas company yet and she said "just wait, and see if it comes in because we are not doing shutoffs this month." Why worry when you can know for sure what you're up against just by calling.

I guess I am fortunate in the sense all bills here are paid in full. But I juggle to do it each month. I will forgo whatever to make sure that is done. Unfortunately some can't no matter how hard they try and I can understand, because I myself have come very close to that point a few times.
As others have suggested, try first to make arrangements, for payment plans. If you can at least do that I am sure they will work with you. Eliminate cable if possible, and try to work out a plan for the balance. Its not an absolute necessity. There are dvds, or videos that you can get at a local library or borrow from friends. TV really isn't worth putting yourself further behind or having to pay reconnection fees.
Many companies should be use to getting these types of calls as the economy is so bad right now. I am sure many have put somekind of standard into place on how to deal with this. Also the prospect of getting some money is better than continued service without getting anything in the end. So its worth the shot.
I wish you the very best. And believe me you are not alone! As you can already see many of the Gather family are trying to help. And there are many more out there, that are trying to make it as well. You don't have to look far anymore now days.

I agree with some of the others, try calling the utility companies and see if you can make some payment arrangements.
