Come now, I had this kind of message figured out the first time I got one on MySpace. I guess it surprises me that it too over 2 months to get one of these on Gather. It's now 3:30 pm (est), Jan 15, and Gather has already deleted the account, good work. Her name is Eden (how heavenly) and wants a long term relationship with me based on a few words seen on my profile. Right! My guess is that I will have to give out a credit card number or two in order to email "her." If they ask my birth date, should I put in January 4, 2009? :)

TONS of Spam bots recently. I hope you reported this IMMEDIATELY to Gather Member Support. These are robots. Usually, I get them from WOMEN but I've had them from men, too. Well, I am female and married, so, obviously they don't look at profiles.

I get about one of these a week, but in the last two weeks I've had about 2 a week.

REPORT AS SPAM. They have to be removed.

It's Rosie... or one of her consorts. I usually send this CRAP (that's what it is!) to its death in the cyber trash can by the method of deletion.

I even get those things here at work and the filters are so strong that they even delete pictures of the grandbabies that my children try to send me. I delete at the first misspelled word (usually the second word.)

These crop up from time to time, as no community is immune from this type of scam. Some of them are quite comical though...however they likely will fool someone.

Since it has already been deleted, there is probably no need to report it.

The ones I encountered on MySpace were often links to on line dating services. Why do I need a dating service with all my Gather girlfriends? :)

Terrorists? EEEKK!

Robots need to find better things to do with their time.

Now, those ones that try to get me to help collect money from an old bank account, I have a special folder I put them in, and am going to send those to the appropriate law enforcement agency when I have collected a few more.

Thanks to everyone for the comments, and I hope you all had fun with it. And, oh gee, I seem to have forgotten to remove the email address from the posting. I hope no one harassed the poor thing. :) I might get sued by a robot.

I did note on Change.org that some people want to pass some laws against spam. Maybe that's a good idea, but with the experience I had with spyware a couple of years ago, it looks like there is no law against that, yet. Spam can be deleted, but spyware can take over your computer. I would make laws against spyware a priority.

It's a good thing you're smart enough to recognize it. Last year my sister-in-law got scammed by one of those "lonely souls" (defintiely NOT a robot), but she was too needy or whatever, and ended up sending somebody in Africa everything she owned (which wasn't much, but still..)
By the time we became aware of it and intervened, she was declaring her everlasting love to the guy and making plans to travel to meet him.

The spam we get and the harassment towards some of us on here is getting worse. Both things are. I am in the process of deleting most my articles and photos might take me a few weeks. Will stay on and keep my groups going or some of them. Might have some of them eliminated too. I have found other places to take my blogs, photos and posts. But won't leave gather entirely or at least not yet. Depends on several things.

I currently have 98 views and 48 comments on a post I thought would go nowhere. The person/robot that tried to scam got deleted, and has no points. I win!

I have a couple social sites. Whenever a 20 something model looking woman contacts me, I know right away, its not because she finds 50 year old dudes fascinating and effervescent. Cam girls don't pester me on Gather.
