I don't mix well with politics. Politicians annoy me to no end. This morning, in my sleep addled state, I saw the headline on Yahoo that reads:
U.S. opens new $592 million embassy building in Baghdad
$592 Million Dollars. On a building- in an area where it's likely going to be bombed by insurgents, or whatever they're called. Seriously, with the state of the economy in the US, do we even have $592 million dollars to be spending on a single building? Or on a whole fleet of buildings, for that matter?
I understand the need for an embassy. I just don't understand the need for it to be so over the top, cost wise. I'm guessing that's where those $3,000 toilet seats, and $5,000 hammers come into play.
Maybe next time, the govt can splurge that money on the people in the US who are homeless. I bet $592 million would go a long ways towards job training, shelters, and food banks.

If an embassy, rather than police-state, can help keep the peace & get our troops back faster, I think this is a bargain.
Dinners might be processed, but they'd be dirt cheap. Personal chefs? Who needs em? The bowling alley? Nope, lights out, too expensive to keep it lit. Mr. President, you walk right back into that room, and you shut the light off!
