A man who told police that gunmen kidnapped his two-year-old son was arrested on Saturday. He is now accused of committing an extremely hideous murder. Because he was ordered to pay child support.
Danny Platt confessed, told police where to find the child's body and will be booked with first-degree murder of Ja' Shawn Powell.
"He had said he would kill either his wife or his child before he paid child support," which he recently had been ordered to do.
They would not describe how the boy was killed, saying the coroner would do that after the autopsy was complete. The mother is in a safe place.
Although he had visiting rights, Platt, 22, of New Orleans, had never visited the boy until he picked him up Friday.
Police put out a notice Saturday asking people to look for the boy and saying his father had told them three men with dreadlocks and AK-47 rifles had piled out of an SUV and kidnapped Ja' Shawn shortly before midnight Friday.
His story never really added up. He was a suspect from the very beginning. Platt eventually confessed and told officers where to find the body.
How does an individual - because he's ordered to pay child support to take care of a kid ... believe that this is so much pressure that he would face - he would do this hideous act to his own child, or to any child, and think that is a remedy to paying child support? There are some sick individuals in this society, and this gentleman is clearly one.

I have seen a lot of support cases. Just around me with my family and friends. And one friend was NOT allowed to see his children. Until he went through counseling. He did not even threaten to kill anyone. *shakes head*
This should NOT have happened..
I am a bit confused about this story. He made the statement that he would kill his wife and/or child before he would pay child support BEFORE this happened? If so, why in the hell was he ever allowed unsupervised visitations in the first place? That was very unwise.
I feel for the mother because I know what it is like to lose a child. However, I cannot help but ask what in the world was she thinking? Had my ex ever made a comment like that, he would have never had to worry, I would not have pursued child support and he would have not gotten any unsupervised visitations. This is so very sad. That poor child.

Terrible, Just plain terrible. It's like the guy who killed his ex wife because of a custody battle. Then took his own life, now the poor child has nothing and nobody.
