My boss is pregnant and due in March. She has been having a lot of problems with her pregnancy and her doctor has been talking about putting her on bedrest so we are planning her baby shower early. The girls in my office decided we would throw her a diaper shower since her family will be giving her a regular shower. I had never heard of a diaper shower but I guess it is a popular thing. All the guests show up with nothing but diapers and wipes. I remembered getting a diaper cake when I was pregnant with my daughter, who is now 12. I got online and looked at cakes other people had made, even some here on Gather and I found instructions. These looked complicated and I thought it would take a while so we got all the stuff yesterday but the shower isn't until Feb. 6th. Turns out this is super easy to do and with me and my 12-year-old it look only an hour! Here is how we did it:

Supplies needed: 1 large pack Pampers size 2 swaddlers diapers, double sided tape, tall baby bottle, rubber bands (i used the clear ones that are made for hair), ribbon to tie each layer and ribbon to decorate with. I also purchased a pack of 10"cardboard circles by Wilson in the cake decorating section at the store. I used this to set the cake on and help determine the size of the bottom layer. I also purchased a 6" metal round cake pan for the top layer.

Coordinating ribbon

Getting started. We rolled up each diaper and secured them with a clear rubber band. Then we started the first row by attaching each diaper with double-sided tape to a baby bottle. We made the characters that are on the bottles facing in so that only the white would show, but you could face them out and use that to theme your cake. The Pampers had Sesame Street characters.

We kept adding diapers until we finished the base and then secured them all tightly with a white ribbon.

We added the top layer around the top part of the bottle and made it smaller than the first.

The last layer I used a 6" metal cake pan and attached the diapers to each other. This is the finished cake before we decorated it.

Here is the finished project! My first diaper cake!

Very nice job.
My little sister makes diaper cakes and sells them, as kind of a part time job. One great thing about diaper cakes is you can add various things to them, and they can cost you anywhere from just a few dollars to $100 or more!
Yours looks beautiful.

Of course, I've never had a baby shower nor been to any...
Thank goodness I was wrong!
I remember getting a diaper cake once. I had never seen them before, and I thought it was the best thing in the whole wide world!
