I'm a sucker for a trip: long, short, far, or near, with friends or without, to see family or to meet new people. I love tasting local foods, learning from different cultures and sharing new recipes that I collect along the way.

My love of travel is no secret. In the past year, I traversed my way through snow-covered mountains, the humidity of the tropics, moderate countryside climes, and sandy dunes at beaches, ending full circle with a snowy blizzard in Northern California.
Oh what joy it is to ride...through a blizzard.
When they said, "Welcome to our house," all I could respond was, "Where is it?"
All around the neighborhood, folks had to take to wearing snowshoes to get around.
My crazy children decided we should take a tranquil hike through the snowcapped trees.
While they rode saucers down slopes, I warmed myself in this cozy cabin.

Without a doubt, the scenery was spectacular.

Yet, after donning more snowshoes for the hike out,

and following a romp in the snow,

we were ready to warm up.

That's when I discovered my new drink of choice: The S'more.

Simply combine some hot imported cocoa with a good amount of vodka in a 10-12 ounce glass. Yes, that's right!
Top it with a homemade marshmallow crème in a glass rimmed with gooey chocolate syrup and graham crackers crumbs. Add two straws, one for you and one for the one you love.
Within minutes, you will forget that you are seated beside a frozen lake in the cold.

Thanks for sharing.
(Whether it does or not, rum is what I have here. In fact, let me go test the recipe again...)
This is that drink you were talking about on my post. It looks better in a picture than in my head!
I'm sooo going to make that drink.
try the smore's thing with a shot of rumplemintz (sp?) in it. gives it a andies mint taste. and warms you up that much more.
Aniko, I'm sure the drink is good either way. I happen to prefer a good vodka though.
Robiyah, that's the drink. It's my new fav for cold weather. Beats hot buttered rum by a mile. (I think it's the chocolaty cocoa.)
Aniko and Robiyah, those dog booties were just the cutest things ever. Many of our desert friends use them to walk their dogs in the searing heat too. Protects their pads from the hot concrete or sand.
Vicky, I could have stayed in that cabin for days! The area is some of the most beautiful and majestic scenery I've seen although I'm a sucker for a great view anywhere in the world. Nothing like a dose of nature, quietude and some good companions for me!
I usually prefer wine or beer to cocktails, but that S'more looks tasty.
I had an excellent cocktail before dinner last night: Ciroc Vodka, Soho Lychee Liqueur, Pomegranate Liqueur, Orange Juice, Grenadine Syrup. Garnished with a lychee and a cherry.
Elaine, yep! This one is delightful. It's a dessert and an after dinner drink in one!
Grems, Thanks a bunch.
Just think: in times past, your horses would have been looking mighty tasty instead of the hot chocolate. Isn't progress wonderful?
Tonia, terrific, I'll drink and you can drive!
I'm afraid I'll have to try Aniko's version of your drink as I have "issues" with Vodka. Although maybe Tia Maria would give it more of a chocolate zing. Hmmmm
Wonderful pictures. It looks like you had a fantastic trip.
Kathleen, I think Tia Maria sounds lovely as a substitute. I think I'll try it too!
donna, thanks. I love homemade cocoa---and a good stiff drink.
Kim, thanks. It was a wonderful time and I was sorry to leave.
love the cabin and the stove and I have one of those black kettles on my stove.
why don't you drive up here to Eureka and stay in my cottage with me? Of course, my kitchen has a lot to be desired but an acquisition of pots is what I want for my b-day. It's in May so if I have a birthday party in SB, you'll be invited. It won't be fancy - the hub likes everything to be real down home. Oh well, love everything and I want to wish you and yours a very wonderful Happy New year. Blessings, Salud
Mariana, Thank you very much. I'd be happy to drive up to Eureka but I think I prefer the wonderful weather in SB in May. I'd love to come to your birthday party! (Pots? ummm, dare I ask?) Happy New Year, Mariana.
I'll get the fire going.
It sure is, Selene. Thanks.
