My Chicago Bulls were routed on their home court yesterday by the Magic 113 to 94 but this score doesn't tell half the story. The Bulls stunk up the entire stadium. The Bulls were flat as a pancake, no energy what so ever. And to top it all off a few of the younger players got ticked off at the coach for banning food in the locker room. I can think back to the days of Jordan and this would be unheard of.
The team is soft in the middle with big men that want to stay out of the paint play like a point guard. The team didn't defend the 3 point line, the baseline or much of anything the whole game.
Defense is the only thing that is that is constant in the entire game of basketball, sometime no matter how well the team can score the ball doesn't go through the hoop. But you can play defense, hustle for the lose ball and give yourself a chance to win every game. But no! Defense takes too much teamwork, brains and physical effort to play. What these Chicago Bulls need to do is run stairs and a lot of them and get over their laziness.
I can remember when the old Bulls (so can most of Chicago) when they got into the seventh and last game of the conference finals, shot bad and trailed most of the game but in the last quarter, the last 6 minutes they dug in and held the opposition with out a score for six minutes to win the game and went on to eventually win the championship. Holding a team scoreless for six minutes in a NBA game is just about unheard of but that's what defense does and can do.
This last game and lack of effort sent the Chicago fans to boo their team on their home court and this effort or lack of effort is now the talk of the town. It's going to be a long basketball season here.
