As 2009 is only a few hours away, the number at the end of the date changes. We add a 9 instead of an 8 and things change for the new year. It's common custom for people to make resolutions for the new year or 'a new start'. I made a list of five resolutions last year and I kept them all, but I didn't call them resolutions, I called them goals. I think when you say "I resolve" it's another way of saying "I will". That's why I set goals for a new year instead of resolutions. Goals are things you work towards and try your hardest to accomplish. With that said, here are my 2009 goals;
Get involved in a new club/organization
Currently at my college I'm involved in a woman's Bible Study, a campus-wide church ministry...and that's it. I've been looking at clubs to join and since this coming semester I only have four classes (and a piano lesson) as opposed to 8, I think I'll have the time to do it. I'm thinking of joining the sci-fi club or maybe the teachers union. But, the plays are coming up and I might do those again...but that depends.
Buy less games and beat more Video Games
Playing Video games is something that I enjoy...and I have a lot. At last count it was staggering around 300 video games spanning from the original nintendo to the Wii. I bought probably around 100 this year and I have few that I've beaten. Thus, I plan on playing more and buying less and keeping a track sheet.
Organize a personal cookbook
I love cooking, much more so when I have people who'll eat it. However, my mothers recipes are at home and I want to try making some new dishes and organizing some personal favorites. I started on one years ago, but I need to think about the format too.
Further Myself to graduate with honors
I love school, and I always have. I'm not a student who focuses just on getting the grades, I love to learn and I'll do additional research. That is why I'm taking two classes this coming semester that are just for fun; cultures of Japan and Abnormal Psychology. I love psychology (and the abnormal part is quite intriguing) and I adore Japan. However, I also care about my GPA. If it were a perfect world then we'd get A's based on effort and understanding, but not so. I've been in several classes were if there was a letter grade higher than an A, I shouldn've gotten it, but instead I got less than an A. I already qualify for honors when I graduate, but there's another one that's higher and if I do well enough I'll manage it easily. I'm the first in my family to go to college so I'm going all out =)
Become more fluent in German and Japanese
Languages have long been a passion of mine. I'm most fluent in German, followed by spanish and then Japanese. I want to focus on my two favorite foreign langauges this year and become more fluent. I have plenty of books and resources to use, I just need to manage my time with it better. Plus...books in japan only cost $3 each there (ok manga) while here they range from $8-$15. Hm...
Be better organized
I'm fairly organized, however I could always use improvement in time management and organization. I'm a very organized person by nature, but I'm also spontanous...they don't mesh well.
So that's part of my list of goals for this year so far. There's a few others I'd like to do like learn to knit, crotche and hopefully make clothing too. Well, here's to 2009!

Happy new year
For me it is the first day of classes in a new semester.
The students will probably be more interested in the inaugeration than the syllabus.
