NEW YEAR'S EVE: What a way to end the year. On Dec. 31st, Venus and the slender
crescent Moon will gather together high in the southwestern sky for a beautiful
conjunction visible for hours after sunset. The two brightest objects in the night sky
can be seen through city lights and even fireworks--so everyone can enjoy the show.
Meanwhile, closer to the horizon, Mercury and Jupiter are converging for their own
Dec. 31st conjunction. This one is not so easy to see, but rewarding for those who
make the effort to find the two planets shining through the rosy glow of sunset.

I like this one best with the lavender sky and the tree branches to the side.
Where I live now, we have lousy sky conditions much of the time, except when it is really cold (it is probably a little better than I suggest, but not much). I have struggled with this and never really got my telescope up an running properly, let alone as a camera lens system. I grew up in Arizona, with amazingly clear skies and low light pollution. I didn't have a telescope, then, but that is the way life goes... at least I saw lots of wonderful stars.
Thanks for all of your continued comments!
