Over the course of the last few days as I've read and responded to a few different posts on topics that revolved around religion and truth a thought struck. In fact it was more than a thought, it was a question that formed in my mind, which is good considering that I needed to come up with my weekly question.
What I was wondering is a question that I have my own answer to, but I was wondering what the answer might be to others, and why they might feel that way. I'm always looking to expand my understanding of life and human relations and I believe that seeing a variety of responses to this question will definitely help me do that.
Therefore the question: Is there such a thing as absolute truth?
What do you think on the subject, and equally importantly why do you feel that way? I'm especially interested in the possibility of anyone sharing specific examples of occurrences or event in their life or the world at large that convince them of their answer.
Please respond with gusto!
P.S. Happy New Year again!

We are seekers and that is what it seems we are meant to be. The more we seek the more we know, but we also see how much more there is to know.
When I was in grade school, there were nine planets. One had twelve moons. One had rings. Now, I think there are 8 planets. I have no idea how many moons the planets have and at least two have rings.
Likewise back then, the atom was the smallest particle and it was made of three parts. Today, I again, have no idea how many sub atomic particles there are.
And how about time and dimensions?
I am pretty sure absolute truth is above our pay grade.
The only Absolute Truth may, indeed, be that we will never know whether there is an Absolute Truth or not.
And when I say this, I am not necessarily trying to play a word game, here.
It IS circular logic, I agree.
But the reason that it is circular logic is because of the subject: Anything so enigmatic, ineffable, so puzzling as the Absolute Truth--by viture of what it is an abstract concept--LENDS itself to such logic.
Absolute Truth is DESIGNED, I believe, to be ever elusive. That's why, to me, the Absolute Truth is naturally, or instinctively, or "logically" spawns ciruclar logic.
I meant to write, "Anything so enigmatic, ineffable, so puzzling as the Absolute Truth--by virtue of it being an ultimate abstract concept--LENDS itself to such logic."
Also, next to last line, delete "is"....I'm such a self-micromanager that I would publicly correct myself.
Now, that's what I call Absolute Truth!
How and why do you think that an Absolute Truth is there?
And how do you know that Science catches a glimpse of the Absolute Truth, as Scientists constantly seek to achieve the `universal theorem'?
Who says that anyone would know the Absolute Truth, when he sees it?
Beyond that, I think there is also an absolute absolute... and I do believe that we can discover it... but that it will be the last thing that someone would expect. There are absolutes in the physical world... but they are often not what a person would make it if they were in charge... :-)
I agree with Elmo. Facts change. I couldn't name the countries in Africa now. So many have changed names more than once. Well, I'd have forgotten some anyway, and that is an absolute truth.

2. Thou shalt send me $100.00

Thanks for all the nice comments David.
Here is the mortal word, an absolute truth seems to be that there is good and evil. The evil is the perversion of the good, not the other way round. For example, love is the good and the perversion is hate. Maybe there is a post here if I think on it some more.
