Well, we got home from our short two week vacation last night. Here's how the trip started.
When we got to the train station they told us that we might want to leave for a bit since the train is delayed possibly as long as four hours. As time went on we checked in with the station and they said all in all it was a five hour delay. Apparently there had been some bad weather by Montana way and the switches on the tracks were frozen. Which meant the train was stuck until they were un froze. They had temps below -20, so there's only so much the tracks can take before they freeze up on you.
So, what can you do when in the train station for hours? Hmmm. Well, you can take photos. LOL Both with your camera and your phone.
The train station all decorated for Christmas.

Gideon looking for the train.
These three are cell phone shots, so the quality is lower than I usually post.

Trying out some of the templates.
Then I taught Gideon about tracing paper art. This busied us all for quite some time.

Gideon's travel crayon case. He basically only uses CRAYOLA brand crayons. He knows they are among the best ones. :P

He liked it so much that he started on another tracing art of Wubbzy.

When it was all said and done, our six hour overlay in Chicago was only an hour and a half. BUT we didn't miss our train like some did and we got to our final destination on time. AND Amtrak gave everyone who was waiting on the train FREE DINNER. So, not a bad deal, really. :)
A shot of some golden rain on the train window at a late night train stop.

So, that's the first of many essays I have to do for our trip. :) I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and you are having a great New Year (yeah, I know I'm a day early with that one.) :)

Happy New Year.
Indeed it did Christine. We had massive snows and temps in the -20s in WI while out in NY and it was mild and rainy. So odd.
Thanks Priscilla. We did what we could. I always pack busy things.
Corina many didn't at all. They were put up in hotels until they could move on. They had delays on the way back for some too due to bad weather.
It had to be sorta pretty (minus the -20's) seeing all the snow while on the train.
It's funny when I was coming back on Amtrak in the summer , the train had been cancelled for four days due to the hurricane flooding the area and they weren't sure if the day we were supposed to leave the tracks would be cleared. But it was.
I love the train...
I also like the colorized photos of Gideon ~ very nice ~ and great for a Travel Keepsake Album.
Since this is so THERAPEUTIC ~ This is FEATURED in Artistic Therapy!
Glad you are back!
You made good use of your time.
