New Year's Eve

We're staying in this year for New Years (we always do), and making up fun appetizer type foods instead of a regular meal. We let the kids request one item each, and then we fill in the empty spots with other foods. On the menu tonight, we have:

Jalepeno Poppers- Raegan's request, and on sale for $2
Pizza- Chris's request
Cottage Cheese- Gilly's request, also on sale for $1.50

On top of that, I want chili cheese dip with doritos. Regular chips & Dip are both on sale, so we'll grab that, too. Nick wants hot wings, but he has the sauce and the wings here to make that.

I have 1 left over blueberry frozen pie we never made for Christmas, with whipped cream, so we'll make that up too. Maybe some fruits or veggies, too. And cheese to cut into chunks.

Nothing fantastic, but fun all the same. We have some movies coming from Netflix today, all new releases we haven't seen.

I have a 6 pack of silver holographic party hats and noise makers that came in a set from Dollar Tree. I also grabbed streamers from Dollar Tree- 2 packs with 2 in each pack for $1 each. The kids will spend the day making construction paper decorations, too.

What are your plans?

Nick gets out of work at 2, yay! He's planning to stop by Target with my $25 Target card to pick up season 3 of Bones, which is on sale for $19.99- down from $45.99 that it normally is. I just grabbed season 1 last week, so I'm excited season 3 is on sale. I will be keeping a close eye on season 2 being on sale, too.

Sounds like fun. I'm on my own this year as Dakota is at her dad's so I will probably just treat it like any other night. Or maybe make some candy for this weekend's Christmas get-together at my niece's house.

Working and staying home. We do the same thing as your family :) I got appetizers (chicken fingers, poppers, baked clams, cheese and cracker and I make mini English muffin pizzas) and still have a frozen Dutch apple pie from the holidays I'm making. I got poppers at the dollar store to celebrate the New Year along with sparking ginger ale. It's low cost, safe and fun to share the evening with the kids. We started the tradition of appetizer ONLY meals starting from New Years' Eve till New Years Night. We're having wings, sausage, chili cheese dip, mushroom turnovers,mini quiche,crab cake balls, homemade salsa, pigs in a blanket, lots of tortilla chips, pizza bagle bites, steak & cheese chimachingas and whatever I can still come up with.

Oh, I want one of the jalapeno poppers!

I usually do all finger foods tonight too. I also have fun doing a whole Martha Stewarty table scape thingy. Last year, I put some black velvet on the table, pulled out my grandmother's rhinestone jewelry and threw it around the velvet. The table was cool and sparkly around the various dishes.

Hubby is on his way home now and then we will go grocery shopping. then just veg out with the kiddo at home. Watch some movies, eat pizza, what not. I doubt I'll even make it to midnight (I hardly do anymore!!!)

Well, I'm back from the grocery store. I spent more than I planned, but I got a lot of grocery items we'll need- cereal, milk, bread, juice boxes for school next week, etc.

That sounds a lot like our New Year's Eve. My husband should be home soon. He got off work early today, too, and then stopped by the commissary to grab some snacks. We're doing cheese and crackers, chips, beef jerky, mozzarella sticks, and chicken strips tonight. Or at least those are the options, we might not actually do them all. I'm making punch, too, so Elliott will be really excited. lol Then we have sparkling juice to toast the new year. We will probably toast at the New Year in the eastern time zone if Elliott is still up, since I highly doubt he will be for ours (central), but he's still little enough that he won't realize it's not quite the new year here yet.

I just went and got appetizers..for myself! I think my daughter is sitting, my husband is stopping at his group's clubhouse and there is no way in heck I am standing in Times Square tonite with my other daughter(I think she is rethinking that one...it is not standing outside weather!)

we bounce back and forth between doing what you are doing this and what we are doing this year, which is going bowling. It's kind of high...the best deal was for 3 couples $100, which includes all you can bowl for 3 hours, party favors, snacks and champagne. Steve is paying for most of it.

We did mostly appetizer, finger food type of stuff plus left over tamales and the girls made a couple pizzas. We watched the ALAS concert on Univision in Mexico City. It had a lot of our favorite artists and reminded us of time spent in Mexico City.
