My 7 year old wants a cell phone...LOL

Our 7 year old told me yesterday that he wants a cellphone..LOL He said he will save his money to buy one and he will pay the bill. I think it's great that he does realize that it takes money to have these things, although there is no way we are gonna get him a cell phone. I told him we will talk about it when he is 16. My BIL just got his 9 year old a cell phone, to me that is crazy!! We did get our son two way radios, they work 15 miles, this way we have no bills and can still keep in contact when he goes to his friends house which is about a block away..lol  Like I told him, only place he goes with out us is to my mom's and 2 of his friends house and their moms have phones and we are all really good friends.

at seven he doesnt need one he will start going other places when he is 10 or maybe 12 then maybe you can talk about it then if he still ask you about it

i can't say much because my daughter got one for her three kids ages 12,10 and 9 but the two younger ones don't go very many places

The radios that you have sounds like a great deal. No additional bills and works as far as 15 miles away,, very nice.

Glad to hear you have your priorities set right. Too many young children have them. Actually, someone should take the cell phone from alot of adults. They are so misused.

I would go with 13 or 14 for the cell phone, and that would only be if he's involved in a lot of activities that take him away from home. Until he reaches the point where it would be a useful tool, he doesn't need one.

My 16 yo bought his own TracPhone, not contract only pays for what he uses. Has worked great. My 12 yo & 7 yo don't like phones! lol
I rarely ever even carry mine!
Now, my hubby can't be separated from his, lol
I may think about getting him one at about 15, if he's really good...LOL we talked about it more today and I pointed out the fact that he don't go anywhere without us or a responsible adult, still i know where he is going, who he's with and I can get ahold of them. He said ok, but when I start going places by myself can I have one, I said talk to me in about 8 years. He said ok then I guess...LOL
