Uggy passed away December 24th, 2008. She never adjusted to our home, she never became friendly with us, and we were Ok with that. It's enough for us that we were able to give her a good home with unlimited kibble, the weekly can of tuna, a peaceful place to be - and that she'd let our big goofy dog lick her face while she pawed his chest and purred for all she was worth. We know that sometimes when it comes to animals and rescue, that it's not about bringing an animal such as Uggy around to being people-ized, it's not about what they give us, or if they respond in ways that make us feel good. For Uggy, it was enough that we were able to re-write her ending from one of starvation and misery, into one of safety, comfort, peace and having at the end of her life people who stuck by her for no other reason than she was a creature on this planet who's life was significant and of value. Rest in peace Uggy.
The Forgotten, for Ugly
An ugly cat,
passed our way,
nothing to offer,
little to say,
we took her in,
anyway.
She ate and slept,
skulked the day,
Roamed at night,
would hiss and fight
And we loved
her anyway.
She lived in
corners, boxes
top and bottom
shelves,
under shoe racks,
behind Christmas fray,
We never saw her,
but we loved her
anyway.
Once we know
she was a babe,
a kitten all pouncy
and white,
round and fluffy
and someone's
delight - - -
who's change
of fate
changed
her life.
We hope
in some small way,
while
she dreamed her last
months away,
She was happy
that we looked
beyond the
creature she'd become,
and took
her home,
and loved her,
anyway.

Anna, I thank you for the love you gave, on behalf of all the neglected and suffering animal friends I have known.
RIP Uggy
Your poem is perfect.
Major hugs.
Rest in Peace Uggy!!!
You ah wicked pissa, Anna.
That means really really good.
"well, the shelter would have just killed her and we didn't want that." I was stunned. I left them my number and told them to call me if there were any future cats they were trying to help. What I really wanted to do was tie them all to chairs outside their store in 105 degree weather and not feed them for a month!!;-)
I'm not a native speaker of the Bawstin tongue, but here's the key HERE - Wicked Pissa - how to tok like we do in Bawstin - or at least to unnerstand how we tok in Bawstin
Yes, it seems silly, but it isn't.
