Eagle Eye the sleeper thriller for the summer did incredibly well -- obviously enough to drop the movie 3 days early (typically on Tuesday drops) on Sunday-- Dec 28, 2008.

This thriller stars Michelle Monaghan and Shia LaBeouf (from Disturbia -- reviewed here on this site) and directed by the same person who helmed Disturbia. This is one of those "not quite smart enough plot" movies but definitely addictive because of the chemistry and action-packed scenes that keeps you glued to the screen. The basic premise -- and questions -- surrounding this story never quite get answered-- at least not along the way-- and the pace is full-throttle thanks to director DJ Caruso.

There are other stellar performers (note that I didn't say performances) in this movie which includes Rosario Dawson and Billy Bob Thornton. The theme sounds good, the execution needs more depth and let's focus less on the stunts and more on the plot-line. However that won't stop anyone from wanting to see this because I loved Disturbia and would have paid to see Eagle Eye at the time it was out if it hadn't been overshadowed by other movies I wanted to see.
I must be realy honest here. Based on the trailers I had seen and the critical remarks at the time, I put this movie on the back burner. By the time I got time to see it, there were too many other movies to review. I did not get a screener copy though I requested one-- so you aren't seeing much of a review other than what I had heard from people I know who had seen the movie and what I gleaned from trailers. Disappointing to be offered a review copy, sign up for it and not get it. It's just plain irritating. I have had to request 2 other movies that I had requested 2 months ago and they still haven't arrived-- and when I finally was able to find the time to go see one on the big screen it was literally almost 30 miles away.
Own Eagle Eye on single DVD, double DVD set with extras galore and also on Blu-Ray which would make everything worthwhile if I had a Blu-Ray player to even check out the exceptional extras.
Buy it at your usual places or via Amazon.com
If you have seen this movie, please let me know your thoughts. The people who hand out the review copies do come here to see what I have posted. If they realize that I haven't gotten the copies I needed OR had paid to see the movie, maybe they would get busy and send me a copy to remind me of the better aspects of the movie.
