When do you take down your Christmas Decorations?

I put up so much that it takes me a few days to get it all down and packed away.  I started today, but it makes me sad.  However, I can't live with the clutter.  So today is the day.  Outside lights will have to stay up longer as my husband is getting over surgery.  What's your plan?

I usually wait until just after New Years Day....I too hate to see the cheerful decorations and tree go down!!!

I take mine down the day after Christmas or Christmas night, but this year we've been busy so they're coming down tonight and tomorrow :) I can't WAIT to have my living room back!

I'll leave them up another week or two. I shoot for Epiphany (January 6) but it may be sometime that weekend after.
I'm thinking i will do it tomorrow afternoon while we watch the football game.
Normally I would leave it up until next weekend, but our house is so tiny that it needs to come down.

I want to take it down already but the kids like to do it on Jan 2nd.
Why? I don't know.

I didn't put up many decorations this year.......we bought a small tree that was already decorated....talk about laziness!!!! It can be taken down and put away in probably 10 minutes or so, as all the decorations stay on it....now, that's the kind of "work" I like....LOL! I'm putting stuff away this weekend, pretty much.
All down and put away already-outside stuff too! We do ours right after Christmas because we have Kyles B-day on New Years Day and the Carlies on Jan. 5th!!

After the new year. I also cannot stand the clutter and confusion, but I like nothing better than laying on my couch at night with only the Christmas lights on. Very soothing to me.

My mother used to say that it was bad luck to have the tree up twice in one year, so the decorations always got taken down before the New Year. I'm like Nora, I have a small tree that comes out of the box decorated. So it will take about ten minutes to put it away.

I like to take mine down on New Years day, but I may take down all the ornaments from the tree soon since my toddler son is pulling them off anyhow. I can just leave the lights on the tree and it will still look pretty. I don't have much else up - a few items here and there and some cards on the wall. Should be pretty easy to take down....hard to believe it is over so quickly and already the stores are selling valentines stuff!

HI! Carol. We have so many birthdays around Christmas, one the 18th, one the 29th, and one New Years day, we started to put it up on the seventeenth of Dec, and then we took it down on the second of January. The kids are all grown now, and they have their own traditions, but I still do it that way when I can.. Ellen B

My sister took hers down today.
I have just xmas cards and stockings on the fireplace. they will come down 1-1-09.
Eight of the cards are from gather friends - pretty neat.
And one of the stockings, with its contents will be going to one special Gather friend on 1-2-09.

I usually leave mine up until 12th night(Jan 6th), but this year I am flying to Florida to visit family for a few weeks. If I don't get the tree down before I leave, it will still be up on the 16th when I get home as my boyfriend has no idea where any of the stuff is/goes.

I'm with you on the clutter issue. Funny how it all looks so nice and inviting when it goes up, but by the time Christmas is over it just starts to feel like stuff. Mine will be all down and put away within a few days!

Stuff that's really Christmasy comes down Jan 6th but more generic winter decorations stay up till I replace them with Spring decorations...but it also depends on how dried out the tree gets, and my mood. This was a really tough year, and I didn't have any Christmas in me. It was the first year ever in my whole life that I didn't have a tree. I'm just glad it's over.

Outside lights go up on Thanksgiving Day, and have to be taken down in the first week of January due to HOA rules. Inside...well the latest we put them away was in February, but that was a particularly busy year. Usually the inside stuff gets put away in the first 2 weeks of January.
