WHY IS THERE SOME KIND OF PING PONG BALL FLOATING AT THE BOTTOM OF MY CAN OF GUINNESS?!?!!?!?!???!!!!!
Okay, so last night I come home from work, and after we had dinner, I sat down in front of the TV to play some Madden 07 on my PS2 (PlayStation 2). (I want one of the newer games, but the prices haven't came down on the 08 yet, and 09 just came out and it probably like $50. - I usually wait until they drop to $20-30 before considering buying it or not, plus with this economy the way it is we all have to make sacrifices and so I'm doing my part and dealing with what I've got. Anyway, this isn't the point.)
So, I sit down for an after dinner dessert with my buddy Guinness Draught. - Guinness - Must Be At Least 21 To Enter.
I notice that the can says "Pour Into Glass" - Usually I just enjoy a nice cold beer straight from the can or bottle whenever the rare occasion strikes me that I wish to enjoy one.
So I went into the Kitchen, I didn't want to dirty a real glass cup, so I grab a plastic cup off the counter.
I pour my Guinness into it, and start to enjoy it.
I went to take my empty can to the garbage can, and I noticed something....
There was something inside of it rattling around inside, and at first I was startled. Then I was terrified that something had gotten into my shipment of Guinness that shouldn't have. Curiosity finally got the best of me, and I started to cut open my empty can with a pair of scissors. Heather came into the room and asked me If I had lost my mind and just exactly what in the world I was doing. Heather told me to put the scissors down. then She picked up the can and shook it in her hands making the ball or mysterious object inside rattle around. She then shrugged at me, picked up the scissors and finished cutting open the can herself. Soon, revealing a White small ball, almost ping pong ball-ish.
So Then we decided to look for a customer service number to call, and ask just why in the heck there was a object left in my Guinness. We quickly decided against that because we Did not want to look foolish. So we decided to google it.
So we typed in "Why Is There A Ball In The Guinness?"
And; Viola! We got our answer!
Do you have any clue why there was a ball floating in my Guinness beer?
I'll give you a hint the round ball isn't a ping pong ball, It's actually called a "widget."
The Ball is called a "Widget", and the Guinness is less fizzy than other lager beers, and is actually creamier. When they make the Guinness they add Nitrogen to it. And this Widget aids the Nitrogen when it mixes with the Co2 in the beer, to help create the head effect. When you open the can and release the pressure. So that you can get great head on your Guinness right from home. You don't have to go to your local Guinness severing watering hole to enjoy the Head.
I should have taken a picture of this beautiful site, but I didn't think to take a picture of the Guinness and it's wondrous head in my cup. (Usually I don't care much about the beer head in my beers, but when you Drink Guinness apparently it's a sin not to have the head effect.)
Anyway, I'm going back to bed now.
I just got up a bit ago, because I had to see Heather off to work, she has to open the Fuel Center this morning. and I came back and couldn't get back to sleep immediately so I decided I'd go ahead and write this article. It's been swirling in my head ever since I found this Widget.
So, Enjoy laughing at my expense!
Or learning something new!
Have a good one.
