I drink Pepsi. It makes no such claims. HAHA
Probably the fact that A. the FDA hasn't been fully funded to perform it's duties in over a decade and B. it's been overwhelmed with all the product recalls and issues regarding China.
The FDA has access to hundreds of millions of dollars every year. A figure that is most likely in the tens of billions. They don't do their job because they don't know what their job is. They appear to work for the Monsanto's, ADM's, Pfiezer, etc. promoting political agendas, destroying our food supplies, bodies and limiting our access to healthy foods.
As Regina stated if they were really concerned with doing their job as intended HFCS and the majority of additives and genetically modified foods would be illegal to manufacture and sell.
The number of product recalls are "political actions" as their are plenty of these US companies that manufacture in Chins because of financial reasons. The food produced in the US is minimal these days and it is well the same garbage. There are really only about 5 companies that produce the worlds "food" if that' what you call it.
Unfortunately because so many believe the claims of vitamins and health benefits this practice should be banned altogether as the majority of "claims" are known to be false by the FDA and the manufacturers of these products.
Regulation of the Nation's Blood banks
Inspection of domestic and foreign food production plants
Inspection of domestic and foreign drug production plants
Inspection and testing of incoming containers carrying consumer commodities for sale in the U.S.
Licensing and regulation of new drugs and medical devices
Regulation and eforcement of safety and labeling for cosmetics, foods, OTCs, etc
Accrediting and inspection of radiology facilities (Mammogram equipment, etc)
Regulation of radiation-emitted products (microwaves, airport X-ray machines, etc)
Now I don't know about you, but that is a lot to throw at one agency and expect it to be done for 1.9 billion.
While there are 12 federal agencies with food safety responsibilities, FDA is responsible for ensuring that all foods moving in interstate and foreign commerce, except those under USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service jurisdiction, are safe, wholesome and labeled properly and that all animal drugs and feeds are safe, properly labeled and produce no human health hazards when used in food-producing animals. 2009 FDA Exec. Summary.
Hmm. The health risks attributed to the feed and medications given to livestock for human consumption are numerous.
Summary of FDA’s FY 2008 Budget
Total Budget: For FY 2008, FDA requests a total budget of $2.1 billion. This amount is $105.8 million more than the FY 2007 request and represents a 5.3% increase.
Budget Authority: In terms of budget authority, the FY 2008 budget contains a net increase of $95.3 million for high priority initiatives. This amount is a 6.2% increase.
User Fees: Finally, FDA’s budget proposes an increase of $10.5 million for user fees. The $10.5 million includes inflation increases required by law for six FDA user fee programs. This amount also includes funds a new user fee program for generic drugs. As we did in FY 2007, FDA is also proposing two new user fee programs. These user fee programs pay the cost to reinspect facilities that FDA regulates and to recover the cost of issuing export certificates for food and animal feeds.
Specifics on FY 2007 Initiatives: Our FY 2008 budget advances FDA’s core mission: promoting and protecting public health. The budget funds initiatives in priority areas:
$21.8M to fund pay inflation for FDA’s world-class workforce
$10.6M to strengthen food safety
$11.2M to modernize drug safety
$ 7.2M to improve medical device safety and device application review
$21.3M to conducting more – and more timely – generic drug reviews; this amount includes a $5.6M increase in budget authority and $15.7M in user fees
$27.0M to establish reinspection user fees and export certificate user fees
$42.9M to continue to relocate FDA operations to our White Oak Campus and to pay the cost of essential infrastructure to support public health programs
$147,600,000 "clearly" accounted for the other $1,952,400,000 you have to hunt and peck to figure out where it is going.
"User fees" are fees that "supplement" the fees charged to the user in the purchase of the products as a part of the cost of production.
Most of this money does absolutely nothing for your safety and is nothing more than waste. One can't let these numbers fool you. The majority of capital has nothing to do with their ability to do their jobs and does not account for the fees they charge and other grants and programs available to them for specific "studies" or that are actually paid for via other methods. The fees paid by those required (the "regulated") are paid to the FDA and not to the government and are not disclosed on the "President's Budget".
It is safe to assume most people have no clue how their food is produced and that the FDA can't claim to be successful in any area for which they are responsible.
The FDA has gone beyond "their mission" and are nothing more than a fraud promoting junk science amongst their peers to increase the profits and control of resources for the "Supermarket to the World". They are NOT a government department but rather an independent agency. They are for the most part not scientists or chemists either. They are primarily regulators doing minimal studies on the claims of the manufacturers, refusing to acknowledge opposing scientific facts and even assisted the Supreme Court of the US in hiding evidence from the people under the guise of "intellectual property rights" and "Industry Trade Secrets" in a case where the company in question (Pfiezer) had no rights to such claims as the research for the drugs in question were paid 100% by the American public.
FDA's mission derives from a variety of statutes, beginning with the Pure Food and Drugs Act of 1906, which prohibited interstate commerce in misbranded and adulterated foods, drinks,
and drugs.
In October they determined that you have no right to know what is in your food and wether or not it is genetically modified (adulterated), where it is gown, how it is packaged, wether it is radiated, etc.
In 2009 the "budget" is $2,399,633,000 which comes out to be about $240,000 per employee to do their job. Most of the "inspections" are not being done at the request of the Wall Street's, Monsanto's and Pfiezer's of the world and just like everyone else in our government these "agencies" all express their "rights" to police themselves. USC Title 42 gives them "the same rights as the 'white man' " yet oddly enough the "white man" has no rights to produce food for personal consumption or purchase food from who they choose. The FDA can do no wrong and the standards of quality and safety are systematically lowered each year for the benefits and profits of a select few. The availability of healthy food is scarce and even the majority of vegetables on you grocers counter, although may be mysteriously free from pathogens, are also void of the nutrients that were once found in them.
The FDA in conjunction with the USDA ($28.5 Billion for 2008) are at the forefront of preventing individuals from growing their own foods, be it livestock or produce, that are free from the genetic modifications and processes that are known to be damaging to the human body. The CDER, CBER, CDRH, NCTR, ORA and hosts of others some with employees paid directly form the FDA'a budget still collect fees and receive grants from other agencies and those they do "business" with.
The incentives are no longer there for safe and healthy food but the speed at which they can assist manufacturers to market and for some products combine with the USDA and the CDC to force the use (and therefore the sale/purchase) of untested and harmful products and practices. This past year GWB has also given FEMA the unconstitutional authority to control the production and distribution of all food sources for any UNDEFINED emergency.
I don't know about you, but personally I would like to avoid paying for the gross incompetence and failures of those who claim to want to protect me when they are the ones who are the biggest threat to my well being, health, safety and welfare.
