The treatment of people on disability

I worked 25 years in my community til illness caused me to be placed on SSD. I go into the supermarket and buy food with government food stamps . While I am there I receive comments like"would you hurry up I pay for my food?" And also when I go for medical treatment You are only allowed the minimal. as far as prescriptions it only covers meds that are necessary. So please understand we do not chose to be disabled. And above all, most of us do not want to collect SSD benefits we would rather take our place in society and work.

I understand what you are saying. I work with many patients who are on disability, even at very young ages. And it seems like too many people look at them and say "they could work if they wanted to" which is usually not the case.

I don't judge people who need food stamps or SSD. Unfortunately I do know of several people collecting SSD who are capable of working but prefer not to. They searched until they found a doctor willing to claim they were disabled. This is not fair to those who really are disabled and struggle to get benefits.

I know, i get the same. I just tell them that i used to work too, for many years, so i am not taking anything from them. Dont let it bother you.

you already know I agree with you about this. we've talked about it. I was born with my disability, and i've always been treated like a liar about it since it's not an easily seen one.

My husband is disabled and recently the doctors have told me I couldn't work because of the severity of my Fibromyalgia. You are right about how they treat disabled people, and you are also right that alot of people on disability would rather work. Chin up! You can't let those kind of people get you down!

completely unfair to those who are disabled and in need. My dad collected SSI for last few years of his life, he had Muscular Distrophy, he died at 33 years old. People who abuse the system are the ones who will ruin it for the ones who desperatley need assistance.
