You have planted much, but have harvested little.  You eat, but never have enough.  You drink, but never have your fill.  You put on clothes, but are not warm.  You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.   Haggai 1:6

 

Parents, with the best of intentions, give or lend their grown kids money.  Does that solve the kids' financial problems?   No.  It treats the symptom.  The problem will surface again elsewhere.

I'll go one step further than Larry. Never do any lending or borrowing of money from relatives including immediate family members. Also never cosign or ask someone else to cosign for a loan. The reason cosigning is required by lenders is because the lender believes the borrower can't pay back.

This is so true I use to think my father was so mean cause he didn't buy each of his kids a car. He could have afforded to. But I learned that because he didn't we learned how to handle our money and buy what we could afford. He taught us well by not giving us money at the drop of a hat. And I did the same for my kids.

Vivian, your father was a smart man. My kids know better than to ask us for free money, or even to borrow money from us. They also know we never co-sign for anyone.
