There is nothing cuter than a holiday kitten. I've seen several kittens given as gifts over the years and there is nothing cuter than seeing an adorable kitten with a big ribbon around his neck.
But are kittens good gifts?
The answer is... they can be good gifts if you know what you are doing.
This can be a big issue for humane societies and shelters after the holidays when people end up with a kitten they cannot care for. I've personally seen several holiday kittens given as gifts that were later given away because they weren't wanted or got returned to a shelter. I don't want this to happen to you (or to the kitten).
So today I want to share with you a few things that you need to consider when giving a kitten as a holiday pet.
There are many things to think about when you give a cat or kitten. First, you need to make sure it is wanted. After all, this is a gift that will need to taken care of for the next 15 to 18 years! Don't make a spur of the moment decision.

P.S. - Have you seen our "Holiday Cat Slideshow"? It is VERY cute, so if you haven't Go to: petplace.com/holiday/cats or click on the image below. The slideshow is at the bottom of the slideshow page

Good article and a good warning to people. What may seem like a great idea and wonderful gift can turn out to be a disaster for someone who wasn't looking for the responsibility.
I would never give or want one as a gift at anytime. We have 5 cats & a dog & they are all very special to us. The youngest cat is 3 & the oldest is 10. People need to be ready to make a commitment, much like raising a child.
Thank you for sharing on gather.
I'm giving you a 10.
I wouldn't give a pet as a gift. Too many variables. It is a sweet idea though.
