On Election Eve, I began composing a Gather article anticipating the political demise of several US Senators distinguished for their egregious egoism, overweening stupidity, or other signs of allegiance to the Cult of Dear Leader Bush II.
Divine Retribution on Political Monsters
In that article, I noted the political failures of four US Senators who deserved punishment from a just God.
Two of them, Elizabeth Dole and John Sununu were decisvely defeated on Election Day.
Saxby Chambliss, lowlife scoundrel from Georgia, retained his seat in a run-off election earlier this month.
The vote for the Senate Seat of Norm Coleman remained unresolved as Minnesota pursued legally-established recount procedures for a vote that was too close to call decisively.
Earlier this week, the blogsphere was alive with findings and projections that the recounting was pointing to a win by Franken. Apparently, the State Election Board cannot compel County Election Boards to include or exclude ballots according to a state-wide criterion, but has been very public in advocating the widest possible review of disputed ballots.
Where the review is being done, Franken is gaining far more votes than Coleman.
This is the result of the Coleman campaign (advised by Karl Rove - no lie) aggressively challenging votes for Franken without any merit. Ballots with stray pencil marks, that lacked signatures (which are not required), or other non-material elements were challenged.
The Coleman campaign challenged twice as many votes as did the Franken campaign.
Now that these challenged ballots are being reviewed and admitted, Coleman is now losing by a narrow margin.
People of goodwill can only hope that the trend continues, and that Franken is elected.
Here is one herald of Christmas Joy:
Franken takes the lead in Minnesota
Norm Coleman's unbounded ambition led him to extremist expressions of support for the failed Bush administration, until Amy Klobucher won the second Minnesota Senate seat by a huge Democratic margin in 2006.
Since then, Coleman has attempted to paint himself as a "reformer", but the only things he can "reform" are his convictions and his conscience to meet every change of the political winds.

Coleman belongs in jail anyway.
Precisely, Jim G.
The recounting has been scrutinized, and the only "irregularity" is the huge number of votes that the Coleman operatives "challenged" without any foundation.
Coleman would never have had a lead at all if his campaign had not made so many bogus challenges.
I love it when Republicans suddenly become concerned about counting every ballot.
Loved your gifts from the magi, Sam.
