White Christmas Coming to Northern Michigan - Photoessay

Today, we're getting a repeat of last week's all day snowstorm.  I was up quite early today and noticed what appeared to be fog on the lake.

Closer inspection revealed not fog, but a blizzard.

Huge, beautiful white flakes fell fast, causing a whiteout over the lake.




Looks like we'll be shoveling again.


The dock is disappearing under snow.

The wind died down, but the snow continued to fall heavily.  This hill is excellent for sledding, by the way.  Grab your sleds and come on up!

These evergreens are part of a terraced garden on the way down to our beach front.  They are taller than they appear in this photo.

Bleak or beautiful?  You decide!

I think it is lovely Jan. We are getting some snow now. I wished we would get some snow. Hopefully tomorrow the roads will be cleared before I have to go to work. I have to be at my first client's house by 7 a.m., not likely if the roads are bad.

I live in the middle of Michigan and am seeing the same.
Took boyfriend to work at 3AM (works for city cleaning streets and they go in early when snow or ice is expected - been going in a 3 all week) wasn't snowing yet. . . when I went out at 10 to go get him, there was at least 8 inches on the porch and the car. No trails beat on the way to town yet - so I busted a track. Only 7 miles from town but took me over 2 hours to pick him up, grab some bread and milk and get home.
I believe there was a fog effect to this also, as even though the wind wasn't blowing much, couldn't see anything. Didn't know if I was rightside up or downside up or in the middle of a field!!!!
Not supposed to let up until 7 tonight!

Beautiful photo! Yes, yes, all of our snow and ice....they are absolutely magnificent, when approaching them with a camera! However, to have to battle the elements, well, then, that is something else.....let's just call it a real challenge!!!!!!!

We only have about 4 inches in lower mich. we were supposed tto have gotton 10, that's ok with me i'll settle for 4/

The big building with the wreath is the garage, which is about the same size as the house.
I went out onto the deck with boots on, but still got my sox and pj pants snowy. This snow is very deep!

Jan, your pictures are beautiful. Shoveling it away can be a challenge especially when you think your done and then look back and have to start all over again. From time to time even natural beauty needs a little maintenance.

This was a beautiful photo essay, Jan. I loved seeing the snow falling from the sky.
We had a very white Christmas also but now there is just a thin cover of snow. Not to worry.......... there WILL be more. :-)

snow falling in pictures is cool- some of my daughters pictures with her and her cousin have snowfall and it looks so magical. Right now we are in the middle of a blizzard- nearly froze my cheeks walking to work. Don't mind the weather but my husband is travelling and planes aren't flying today so maybe he might come home tomorrow.
