Tuesday night I was able to see a premier of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I took 3 teenage boys with me -- Pher, the neighbor boy, and Pher's friend....that probably wasn't the smartest of ideas. I ended up sitting by myself, but I was within popcorn throwing distance of the boys (just in case).
I was born under unusual circumstances." And so begins 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,' adapted from the 1920s story by F. Scott Fitzgerald about a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards: a man (Brad Pitt ), like any of us, who is unable to stop time. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918 to the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be. Benjamin Button is a grand tale of a not-so-ordinary man and the people and places he discovers along the way, the loves he finds, the joys of life and the sadness of death, and what lasts beyond time. I do not want to give away too much of the movie.
curious I was very interested as to how the film makers would protray Benjamin and have him age backwards. I do think they did a very good job. The movie also did a good job of alternating between touching and funny. There are spots in the movie that had the whole audience roaring with laughter....even the teenagers. I asked the boys what they thought of the movie, and all 3 of them enjoyed it. The boys could also already quote movie lines (which does scare me a little).
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is rated PG-13 for brief war violence, sexual content, language and smoking. Honestly, I think the kids hear and see worse on network TV. I would let Angela see this movie, but she has no interest at all.
I will warn you though...this is a LONG movie. The movie itself is 2 hrs. 48 minutes long, though it really doesn't seem like it. We didn't see trailers or commercials which will add about 30 minutes. So, if you plan on seeing this movie, give yourself at least 3 1/2 hours of movie theater time. This movie opens on Christmas Day.
