What's up with Obama and preachers? If not Wright, Rick Warren.
Rick Warren!? What did he say.
No, Obama did not attend his church. Not even for 20 minutes. Well he went there for a forum with McCain during the summer. That boring 90 minutes everyone forgot about soon after.
Warren has been invited to Obama's inauguration to deliver the invocation. Shocking, I know but I don't care. Some do however and many are outraged.
Warren in summary is opposed to abortion, gay marriage, and stem-cell research. In short, he is a controversial figure who has had his share of memorable quotes. Gay groups and pro choice groups don't see eye to eye with him to put it mildly.
For Obama, this is all about inclusiveness and willingness to reach across ideological lines. For far leftists such as the People for the American Way, this is not acceptable:
It is a grave disappointment to learn that pastor Rick Warren will give the invocation at the inauguration of Barack Obama. Pastor Warren, while enjoying a reputation as a moderate based on his affable personality and his church's engagement on issues like AIDS in Africa, has said that the real difference between James Dobson and himself is one of tone rather than substance. He has recently compared marriage by loving and committed same-sex couples to incest and pedophilia. He has repeated the Religious Right's big lie that supporters of equality for gay Americans are out to silence pastors. He has called Christians who advance a social gospel Marxists. He is adamantly opposed to women having a legal right to choose an abortion.
Next thing you know, liberals will say Obama is "palling around with pro lifers and gay haters."
This Obama guy. What wrong with him? He continues to listen to, drink tea with, appoints, and invites people he does not agree with.
Something ought to be wrong with him. Who does that?

To the detractors of this invitation ... can't we just allow that these guys don't agree on everything but still respect each other and are willing to put that example out there for the world to see?
Obama picked a preacher that is soft spoken but controversial to do the inaguration prayer.
This particular guy is one of those moral majority kind of guys who dont support gay marriage and things like that because it will polute the family values.
Does that help?
So, if team Obama believes this is step one to bring those folks to the table, more power to them. I am very skeptical of anything good coming off it, but hey, gotta at least try. Let's see. I don't think those folks want a dialogue. I am sure they made up their minds but let's see where that leads.
The far left ought to relax. Want to win again? Follow Obama. Your looney lefty crazy ideas gave us what? 8 years in the white hours out of 24?
We really have to start having a little perspective, people.
HOLIDAY WISHES TO ALL...AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT (or morning, or afternoon, or tea time, or snooze time, or now I'm just getting silly).
"Grave disappointment" would apply to loss of a job, not Rick Warren. Life will be about the same for straights and gays after Warren says his prayer.
To me, prayer is so much talk. Warren is in a position to represent Obama and all of us. Let's see what he says...
