The only thing worse than someone being politically correct is someone pretending to be politically correct while having no clue what they are actually talking about.
So Winter Veil began yesterday in World of Warcraft. All the cities in the game are decked out with holiday lights and decorated trees. "Grandfather Winter" (WOW Santa) is chillin' out in Ironforge, giving presents to all the good (and bad) Night Elves, Draenai, Gnomes, Dwarves, and humans (even the Death Knights). Gnomes and goblins are running around dressed like Christmas elves. You can do quests to rescue a reindeer from pirates, and face the Abominable Snowman. Yep, tis the season....
Anyway, I go up to Northrend to do my questing, and as I arrive someone is complaining in the Trade Chat channel.
===========================
Player 1: WTF? why r there xmas trees in kamagua?
Player 2: It's winter veil.
Player 1: WTF? tuskarr have xmas trees? (note: tuskarr are a nomadic NPC race in Northrend. They are sort of walrus people with an Eskimo vibe)
Player 3: ITS WINTER VEIL EVERYONE HAS TREES NOOB
Player 4: Lol
Player 5: lol
Player 1: sumbody needs to remind blizzard not everyone is christian
Player 2: ???
Player 5: lol?
Player 1: not everyone is christian.
Player 2: WTF does that have to do with anything?
Player 1: what about jewish people that play wow? they don't celebrate xmas.
Player 3: WTF NOOB IT'S A GAME GET OVER IT
Player 5: roflmao
Player 1: blizzard should have stuff for other religions too
Player 2: It's just the seasonal world event. It has nothing to do with being Christian.
Player 1: yeah, christmas trees and santa hats and christmas lights but it has nothing to do with christmas. WTF there are other people that play this game that r not christian and blizzard should be more inclusive of other beleefs.
Player 6: Chuck Norris started Winter Veil.
Player 5: LOL!!!!
Player 4: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ah, yes, the intellectual stimulation of Trade chat.
Now what makes this whole thing really funny is that the guy complaining didn't actually "get" the joke of Winter Veil. In the WOW universe, Winter Veil was originally only celebrated by the Dwarves and the Tauren, and it was a cultural thing. But then the goblins, in their quest to make a buck, decided Winter Veil would be a financial boon if they could get it to spread to the other races. So wherever there are goblins, they bring the Winter Veil celebration (and sales) with them.
So the entire Winter Veil celebration is actually a big take off of the commercialization of religious holidays. It's meant as a joke.
Since the joke was obviously lost on the complainer, I bit my virtual tongue and refrained from explaining to him that trees, holly, mistletoe, and candles were actually PAGAN trappings for the Solstice, not originally Christian symbols. His virtual head probably would have exploded.
Happy Winter Veil! (hurries off to throw a snowball at King Magni to get her achievement)
