I bought my mom and dad a small pre-lit Christmas Tree from CVS. It sas their own brand. It was fine the first year. The second year we had it, we used it for Christmas, or rather, they used it. They didn't have it lit much. About 3 days after Christmas, it wasn't on, and my 15 year old was sitting in a chair next to it. He heard a pop and it just burst into flames!!! He yelled, I ran downstairs and reached through the flames and unplugged it. Yes, I am the fire goddess! Now, the tree is on fire, the tree skirt is on fire, the wall is on fire and so is the carpet. So I'm yelling at the kids to go upstairs and get out of the house and I'm running from the kitchen to the living room with bowls of water to douse the flames. Mind you, the kitchen floor is tile, and I'm sloshing water all over the place, so every time I go into the kitchen, I'm slipping and sliding on the ceramic tile, and tryng to run back in balancing a bowl of water! Funny in retrospect. After about 14 trips, the fire is out, my kids are outside yelling at the top of their lungs that the house in on fire!~!!!! Now, I calm them down, and some of the neighbors, and assess the damage. Tree.....totaled. Wall....repairable. Carpet...not so good. Family....all ok.
CVS did absolutely nothing for me, even though the tree was only 2 years old!
So this is a warning, even if not plugged in, those trees can combust!
Beware!
