I'm 33 years old and have NEVER had a fake Christmas tree... until NOW! We've always went out and chopped down our own tree for Christmas, since I was a little kid. We had so much fun and I always looked forward to it each year.
In all my years, I've NEVER had to buy a Christmas tree... until THIS YEAR. We always went out and cut down our own. Right now, it's impossible to get very far up in the mountains and nearly impossible to get more than a few feet off the road because of the snow. Any worthy trees close enough to the road have already been chopped down.
At the lots around town selling Christmas trees, they are asking an insane amount of money and I'm just too cheap to pay what they are asking! They wanted $25 for a tree SHORTER than my almost 5 year old daughter! NO WAY!
Saturday, hubby the kids and I ran errands and went shopping for a fake Christmas tree. Of course, the one I LOVED was 8' tall and $300! Yeah right, not this lady! We ended up getting a 6' tree on sale for $20. It's not what I wanted but it's better than the alternative.
The kids decorated it Saturday night and to me, it's PERFECT!
Is your tree real or fake?

I bought my tree 4 years ago and it is huge and pre lit
I dont have to worry about cleaning up the mess after.
its alot easier!!
We have done real ones before but they are messy. Last year though when we visited the inlaws in Montana for Christmas we went and chopped down our own and it was sooo much fun!
It's fine with me- half the fun is trying to put the limbs on! LOL
I'm glad you are happy with your purchase! Tree prices have gone up way too much!
And, this year so far on the news I've heard about people finding BATS in their live trees from the tree lots, and vandals spraying chemicals and gasoline on the real ones too. So, with my fake one, I don't have to worry about any of that stuff either. Saves me some real headaches. And my $9 tree has lasted for 6 years so far with many more years to go, that's much more economical than $50 a year or more for a live tree.
Hope you enjoy your tree either way!
Merry Christmas!
did you know it is better for the plant to use a real tree. It polutes to make the fake ones and it thins the forest, which is better for the other trees. Also the farmed trees peovides jobs.
Growing up, we always had real until my dad broke both his legs in an accident at work. That was 3 weeks before Christmas, and he had to have a hospital bed in the living room. That year, they used a small tree that was hung on the wall- it was like half a tree. The next year they did artifical as well. Since then, though, they've gone back to real.
I think Jill did a great job pointing out the benefits--much more ecnomical, cleaner, and easily put together and stored.
I bought a tree on clearance after our first Christmas married. It's prelit, the perfect shape and size, and I don't have to worry about the mess of needles. I only paid about $15 for it. Besides, I'm in the minority here, but I HATE the smell, and with Elliott's other allergies, he probably wouldn't be able to handle a real tree.
I had to use fake ones when we lived abroad and promised myself I would never use a fake tree again once I got back to the UK.
