I am constantly amazed at the cruelty and ignorance of some fellow Gather members.
Case in point, I posted a fluff piece about a 3 day-getaway I have planned, during which I will spend a few nights in Atlantic City. My trip dates are December 24 - December 27.
Apparently, another gather member has a problem with me taking a holiday during the time of his religious holiday.
Here is an excerpt of the comment he left on my previous article :
It just demonstrates that some, like the anonymous individual who posted this crap, finds the holiday spirit in the loud, garish and gaudy environment of Atlantic City's casino's.
All that the author of this rubbish accomplishes is to prove themselves to be lacking of any taste or holiday spirit. Other than that, who the heck cares what somebody who is afraid to identify themselves is doing on a vacation chosen during Christmas?
Now, I have a couple of issues with this comment. First, the commenter seems to think that we are all obligated to celebrate his holiday, and secondly, the commenter seems to think that we must all post under our full, actual names.
I have stated repeatably that I am not (and have never been) a Christian. I have been attacked for using the phrase Christian Mythology by others. I suppose that some Christians believe that the world revolves around their beliefs and refuse to acknowledge that other people do not buy into their mythology.
I have been told, by many other members, that they will pray for my soul, or that I will not go to heaven. Well, if heaven is inhabited by this sort of ignorance, I am thankful I will not be sharing it.
Now, I am not a gambler (I play the 5 cent slots), I am going to Atlantic City to get away for a few days, and I received an excellent offer from Harrah's ($39 per night). The hotel is very nice and has a wonderful pool. I will have tickets to see Cirque Dreams (show), and am going to the IMAX theater. A relaxing few days, only 1.5 hours drive away.

You've achieved Gather Status™. Not everyone gets attacked by people that loony.
:)
Good Lord, sometimes I want to slap my people.
I'm just kidding. I hope you have a good time. Atlantic City's not all bad.
Regarding the price, how could I pass up $39 at a 4-star hotel???
I touched on those subjects in my Christian Mythology article.
I'll give your post a look.....
No offense, Jersey Joe, but why would someone who so clearly dislikes you care where you go for Christmas? Doofus.
apparently this guy has never turned on the TV or walked out his front door during the Christmas build up. Atlantic City is just as gaudy as Christmas. Lights and hawkers and people trying to wring every nickel out of you. At least AC is respectful enough to skip the holy pretense.
I took the liberty of copying his comment on the same post in case he decides to delete it. It is just too good to lose.
I have to say that I have never put you down for what you do or do not celebrate, so for me uh, well this time I know you are not talking about me.
Don't get me wrong, I still don't like you and I know exactly what you think of me, but as far as what you celebrate and how you celebrate it, is your personal choice.
Just like you have called me countless names and pushed me over the edge, all because of my political beliefs.
I can agree to disagree, but I have a breaking point, as you found out.
There are probably millions of people throughout this world that do NOT celebrate Christmas.
If you want to take a trip over the observed Christmas Holidays, no matter what I think of you, and my personal feelings about you, that is YOUR choice.
I think there are times Christians are tired of having to make way and sacrifices for non believers, people want In God we trust off money, people want scenes from that Bible that are carved out of stones in buildings places like the Supreme Court House. Religious figures stolen from Nativity sets.
You add all this up and the stress of the season, the economy, financial problems, it makes for a very tense season between believers and non believers.
You could always go back to the Original roots of Christmas, which were NON Christian, and celebrate that.
I did some research once to find out how Christmas originally started, and it started as a 'Christian' Holiday, because the Catholic Church wanted a religious holiday to set apart the Non Christian, secular, and even what some consider 'pagan' holidays.
It has been long proven that Christ would not have been born in Dec. I have seen disputes that say He was born either in Spring or Fall, not in the winter months.
Do what you want with your time, and just say IDGARA what others think.
Mooch
I think you have gone over the edge in some posts, but I harbor no animosity towards you.
I have tried to let you know that deleting comments (censorship) is the only thing I cannot stand.
You have your views, and I have mine.
We agree to disagree.
Trying to hide?
Make up ?
Are you crazy?
Joe ,never forgive , never forget, always get even ;-)
(Your little get-a-way sounds wonderful. I'll probably be going to the movies.)
Please explain what your problem is.
BTW, when you play the nickel slots, you can't win or lose big, it's just fun.
I'll really going just to get away for a few days, I'm not a gambler.
I'm sorry that you considered my article boring. It was nothing more than a reply to an unwarranted attack.
I'm also sorry you cannot appreciate that people post articles on Gather that deal with fluff issues.
Tell me where else I can get a room in a 4 Star hotel for $39? Have you seen the pool at Harrah's?
