I have a big, bad watchdog in my backyard, but he is as gentle as a lamb with family. This is Sox, with my son and daughter-in-law (preggers with twins).
Sox is a one eyed boxer that snarls and growls at strangers, and sometimes sends them running in a bundle of nerves.
Awhile back, my husband found the pest control serviceman sitting in his truck puffing on a cigarette, perspiring and pointing at the fence with a trembling finger, saying, "I ain't going in there with him." Apparantly Sox had charged him at the gate.
This same innocent little old man (he's eleven years old now, so I guess 77 in dog years) is also gentle enough to eat smarties one at a time out of my hand while I sit at the pool in the summer, and when I walk my property, he is ahead of every step making sure I am safe . . . but he can be fierce.
The above picture was taken about a month ago while it was still abit warm. Today it was cold outside, and Sox stayed in his house under his heat lamp and was a sorry watch dog at best. He didn't care who came along, he was staying warm.
The delicate balance of nature was on hold, frozen with the cold so to speak. While the canine hibernated, rodent, feline, and feathered friends came a-banditing at his bowl.
I watched through my French glass doors as two squirrels, a redheaded woodpecker, and a black kitty came to feast. Then I thought, oh, my camera. I wanted to catch that woodpecker, but he was onto me and flew away. I did catch two more kitties, a bluejay, a cardinal, and a few other birds.
Here are a few of the shots. I hope you enjoy the beauty of my afternoon window gazing.

Tomorrow when the sun shines warm, Sox may retake his domain, but for the day, he fed the world.
Good night all, or I should say good morning. May you have a happy day filled with beauty! God bless.

Have a good day and week!
He had some nice looking friends come to his feast!
I love that our pets take such good care of us sometimes. I have a mutt that sort of looks like a German Shephard but much smaller. She can appear fierce when visitors come to the door. The only person who isn't afraid of her is our mail lady. Even some close family and friends are wary at first. Then I look at our 1 year old climbing all over her and feeding her cheerios one at a time. It's great how they just fit into families so well.
Thanks for stopping by to comment on my Drable.
Enjoyed the story and loved the photos. I see both bluejays and cardinals often, but never that close.
