That line may not mean anything to you but it was one of the funniest lines in our family because of the story behind it. When we visited the Grand Canyon for the first time many years ago, my little brother was two. He had a very eventful year that year. If you read my "Tot Two Takes Early Morning Walk," you'll know what I mean.
Now, back to the story. When we were at a restaurant at the Grand Canyon National Park, our family was having dinner and waiting for our order to arrive. Jeffrey had already had one dinner roll and Dad said he couldn't have any more until after his dinner. Jeffrey was the baby of the family and when told no, he decided to press the issue by whining, which did not go over at all with Dad. As Dad got more and more annoyed with Jeff, Jeffrey looks up with these huge brown eyes and says, "but I wanna roll." I'm laughing so hard trying to tell this story that my computer is shaking.
I can still see that little face and hear his voice and the look on Dad's face. He went from anger to bewilderment in about two seconds. You have to understand that my Dad was a bit of a control freak back then and he'd just given Jeff his famous line in our family, "do you want to go outside?" So when Jeff said that, it was like turning the tables on Dad and he was speechless until everyone of us burst out laughing.
My sister, Jennifer, and I kept saying, "but I wanna roll" and laughing hysterically all the way back to the hotel. We shared a bed and we must have laughed ourselves to sleep that night and we still crack up every time we think about it.
I hope you guys got a good laugh out of it. I never know how it will come out in writing.
