My husband and I found out today that his mother was just diagnosed with emphysema. She has never smoked a day in her life but was diagnosed with it anyhow. She is super worried and my husband is not taking it well either. So, I am worried a lot right now. I just wanted to ask for everyone to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. and any ideas as to what I can do to make it easier on everyone.

Has she been around smokers? Work a job that places her near smoke? That could be something that caused it. I know working in a casino, for instance, can be very bad for your health. I knew of someone who worked with a friend (both at a casino) whose Doctor told her that her lungs and throat looked like she smoked 2-3 packs a day, jsut from working in that smoke filled environment.
even more so during the holidays.
Best wishes for your family.
I found a site that explains it pretty well and talks about treatment. http://www.healthscout.com/ency/68/149/main.html
I suspect it may be the reason I was able to quit smoking after having been a smoker for over 20 years.
hoping for the best

Thanks for your comments on my work. I'm just now starting to return your comments. Please be patient, as it may take me a while.
I'll be keeping her and you
and your entire family in my thoughts
and daily meditations.
Just keep her out of smoky places & don't allow anyone to smoke around her or in her home.
Bless you all.
