I have been looking at Caroline Kennedy's resume and the only thing that I can see that qualifies her for Senator of NY is that she is the kid of a slain president, and more importantly a Kennedy. Sure, she went to the right schools, that was a given. But, over the years she has always been against being in the public eye, and her need for privacy. Well, it would seem that she is finally playing the one card that she has to play to take the seat of Hillary Clinton, that of being a Kennedy.
Ok, I will give her kudos for not going the way of the alcoholic like most in her family, but let's look at what she did. She wrote 2 books. Well, considering her mom was an editor for Random House at one point, Um, next.
She is a member of the Bars of NY and Washington. OK, but has she ever PRACTICED law? Richard Bradley says in his article:
Kennedy has always seemed more interested in avoiding public issues than engaging them. As an adult, she has tended to work at jobs that didn't require her to work all that hard and didn't require her to mingle with ordinary people. She has a law degree but does not practice law, instead co-writing two books about important Supreme Court cases. The books were typical of Kennedy: high-minded, earnest, but distant, as if she never really wanted to take a position on something relevant to the events and debates of the day.
My view is that Caroline Kennedy will only get the seat of Senator of New York because of her name, not any real experience. She has not proven that she cares about the people she would be serving. If she did, she would stop making the calls to the powerful and get on the street and talk to people. Being a Kennedy should not be a blank check to whatever you want in America. She is not her dad or her mom. Nor is she Ted Kennedy, but a woman who has shown disdain for all the ordinary people, and now wants to "serve" them. Nope, that would be a travesty to put a socialite in one of the most powerful offices in America, just because she is a Kennedy.
Also, remember she stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back when she endorsed Barack Obama. It was cold and calculating. Oh, wait, maybe the debutante is ready for politics.

That gave me a good laugh, I have to say I needed that laugh.
But in all seriousness I've seen people get elected to Congress with less qualifications than her.
Mooch
She received her B.A. from Harvard University
She graduated from Columbia Law School with a J.D. in 1988.
She is one of the founders of the Profiles in Courage Award.
She worked as chief executive for the Office of Strategic Partnerships for the New York City Department of Education.
She currently serves as the Vice Chair of The Fund for Public Schools.
She is director of both the Commission on Presidential Debates and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
She served as a member of the advisory committee suggesting vice presidential nominees for Barack Obama's presidential campaign.
Not a bad resume, and obviously well qualified, despite the OP's opinion.
She has a great education, whether or not she ever practiced law. She has a resume full of fine humanitarian work, and she is not an ego-maniac.
She is the anti-Palin.
And, BTW, while she supported Obama, not every Kennedy is an ardent Democrat.
However, it would seem that Governor Patterson has many strong candidates to pick from, and my gut says she won't be the one.
She received two academic degrees (bachelor and JD). Because she is a Clinton. Let's be honest and not apply a double standard.
Yes, she is being considered in part, because of her last name. This is the real world folks. There are thousands of people with similar qualifications who will not be considered.
Hillary had no qualifications but she earned it by running and winning. That's what I've been saying about Obama all along. He was earning it on the filed. Nobody appointed Obama.
Everything else she has to offer is just a bonus. :)
Once. It's hard to count to one I guess.
Perhaps, but she is intelligent, while Palin is a dumb as a doorknob. I couldn't care less about looks.
Republicans in NY State are not like Republicans elsewhere. in NYS, they tend to be much more moderate. Pataki was a good governor.
I think Caroline Kennedy wold make an excellent Senator.
What exactly about her do you not like (aside from her name and the fact she is a Democrat>?
You cant take a college course and there is no OJT.
This is silly.
BWA HAHAHAHAHAhahahaaaa! Thoroughly delightful!
Vickey W. is quite correct. Obama has been a sleeper cell terrorist for 20 years hiding his Muslimness in a Christian church...his ties are SO extensive to the terrorists around the globe that it should come as no surprise to find out that Sirhan Sirhan was the bastard child of Osama Bin Laden's brother's Uncle and a Saudian Arabian Suicide mother with a defective dynamite belt who started to serve the cause in a new way, by pumping out bouncing baby suicide bombers every 9 months. Clearly, her endorsement of Obama speaks volumes to the way she turned her back on her own (keep up, M-kay - he did kill a Kennedy) and indicates THIS Kennedy wants to see a full Obama pardon given to Sirhan Sirhan so that she could get even with having to bear the power and prestige of that name she carries. THAT'S why she supports the PLO. Umm. Or something like that. I read it on the internet somewhere so, CLEARLY it's true!!!! <--And look at all those exclamation points! That means it's really true.

Rainbow Brutha!! ""She stabbed Hillary Clinton in the back when she endorsed Barack Obama" Really?" Yeah. Really. She was supposed to stab Obama in the back. You didn't get the memo?
California could use her as a Governor! AND we have better weather and sea food....AND we can send her to Disneyland!
1) she's a Kennedy;
2) she's a lawyer who passed two states' bars, but does not actively practice as either a court defender or prosecutor, nor is associated with a law office (which, by the way, does not exclude her from 'practicing law'); and,
3) she endorsed Obama instead of endorsing Clinton.
I fear it's #3 that really made up your mind to post a meaningless article about a very intelligent, ethical, caring and well-rounded woman. But, that's just a guess on my part.
Why not? She can train under Uncle Ted and inherit her father's desk. She has a squeaky clean background, a history of philanthropic endeavors, and a large family willing to campaign from sea to shining sea.
She can't possibly do any worse than 44 previous men.
Get real people Caroline couldn't stab Obama in the back. He was an unknown. But, loyalty means nothing in America anymore, so why bother explaining to people who it would seem would sell out their parents to be on the right side of Obama.
I was a Clinton supporter in the primaries. I was not particularly happy when Caroline Kennedy supported Obama - and I was not happy when Obama won the nomination. That said, I have since been impressed by Obama - especially with his growing message of economic growth, national security, and progress on climate change through federal incentives to expand renewable energy industries/technologies in this country.
The Kennedy aura in this country is not a mistake. Few people in this country have the ability to inspire people like JFK and RFK. I would look forward to Caroline Kennedy's political career, and I wish her well.
We could do far worse (and have) than her.
Premature to think about that, but it works for me.
