Snow on the way up on Monday - snow mostly in Montreal. They said 4 inches but it was 12 inches with minus 20, and took forever to get into the city - 90 minutes from city limits to where I needed to be - so that trip took 8 hours instead of 5, and today, I left at 10, got in at 6 p.m.
Two hours again to get out of Montreal, with snow on the road and traffic, a lot of squalls in Vermont, icy rain in New Hampshire, and rain in Massachusetts with horrible traffic. Another 8 hour trip, instead of 5 hours.
This is just a TYPICAL SNOW in Montreal.
The only reason I went was because I HAD TO. I had a very bad experience in 1993 coming back from NYC in a bad snowstorm - took 48 hours - had to stop overnight in Attleboro, Massachusetts - took 4 hours (instead of one hour) per state and my car kept doing 360's on the highway, I was going 20, foot not even on the gas, could not turn out of the 'ski track' lane.
Finally landed in front of the first call back in Massachusetts. I resolved NEVER to drive far in snow again.
Stories soon.
I am sleeping.
But I guess I should be thankful. At least we expect snow in Boston and Montreal. Louisiana, as far as I can tell, expects hurricanes but not major snow.

Took 2 hours to de ice my door locks and to get the snow and ice off, took hours on TUESDAY about 8 hours out of 10 just to drive a couple of miles.
Snow piled a foot high everywhere.
I USED TO LOVE IT IN MONTREAL but NO LONGER.
But then again, I guess I should be just thankful its not snow.
Glad you are home again....safe and sound.
Been in some bad storms before, and they are never fun to drive through.
Hope all is well, as much as can be expected.
I never traveled to Montreal, but my dad was born there and he told me about the weather.
I love Florida.
We are expecting rain from sat. on so it'll be a mess here too!
We'll talk soon.
I'm glad I don't live in Boston right now, Kath! Interesting piece, and I love your new icon.
The Spirit of red and green
When Boston DOES get bad snowfalls, they still are NOT as bad as Montreal's.
In the car I drive, I never fell confident, because it gets stuck too easily and it's hard to get out. Last year, it took four people to get my car out of a snow patch at the grocery store.
It was quite scary.
Especially since, my hubby and kids were with me.
Luckily, I was able to keep them calm.
I was surprised to see now on the news that we have a state of Emergency regarding the weather. I look outside and see a cloudy sky (never a good sign - must be snow to come) but we only had rain. But in Western Mass...., oh yeah, they had snow.
I believe the Snow Storm I've been in the past few days is making its way to Boston. Oh well, since it is about 15 degrees warmer here every day compared to Montreal, it sill won't be THAT bad.
Donna, yes, said hello to your fave Boston for you. Lynn: :)
david w: Worcester and Western Mass had the storm but Boston has not had it, so far. State of Emergency in Western Mass and West of Worcester, not that far from Marlboro.
I am thinking that Boston will be getting the storm...later today............
I had wanted to visit my college roommate in Montreal during holidays, but she strongly advised against it. I should really thank her!
I'm sorry to hear that you hate snow so much.
Please feel free to send your share over to my house.
We Love Snow !!
Thanks for sharing the pic.
Merry Christma-Hannu-Kwanza-Solstice !!!
Richard: Yeah, it was bad. I can see by the sky here in 617 Boston area that a storm is headed this way, the same storm front I think.
regina, make angels.
Between Dec 1 and April 1st or 15th very risky. Montreal has one storm after another this time of year. A way of life.
Have a great holiday season to you and yours.
May you get everything you want and more this holiday season.
I miss the snow. Even the big snow storms every now and then.
I doubt it will be melted in N.N. Hampstah. Lawrence, Andover were without power yesterday, and I lost a student appointment because of that. 1 million without power, think that is Mass alone.
I am in 617 area code so I am far far far away - well only an hour from the great LIQUOR STORE....
It was Montreal - trying to drive - I was the passenger - in 12 inches of snow and minus 20.
People in Boston complain but I laugh....But Montreal is a thing apart from everything, worse than Moscow, and worse than everything except Mt. Washington, worse than Vermont.
I never had trouble with Chicago traffic, but never had trouble with Montreal before now, either.
Gary. Yeah. Heard lots about that.
