So Cold......

Well, yesterday was not a bad day here, it rained and melted most of the snow. Last night it got cold though, freezing rain and later snow. So this morning I go to get in my car and 3 out of 4 doors are frozen shut! I had to get in on through the front passenger side door and start the car so it would warm up enough to un-freeze the other doors. I'm glad I started out early :-)

Has this ever happened to you? What if they all freeze shut, how the heck would you get in???

I've been known to pour a pitcher of hot water on the door and open it quickly so that it will not re-freeze.

A hair dryer...or de-icer works well :) If your lock should freeze shut try using a lighter on your key for a sec to warm it and then try it in the lock :)

It doesn't happen to me any more because my car is garage kept. But when I used to live in an apartment and lived in Tulsa, OK...it happened to me all the time. I had to crawl in from the back seat to get to the drivers side. Once my car warmed up, I was able to unlock the doors.

Yeah I have had frozen doors before. Right now I am without a vehicle since I had a car accident several weeks ago, so I didn't have that problem this morning.

It only happened one time to me where it was that bad, and I used the hot water. Usually it is just the lock and not the doors that are frozen shut.

I live in Fl. now. No snow. I lived in NY before, but that never happened. I don't know what happens if you get shut in. Get you go around the back door and shovel out. :(

PIF Don't pour it on your windshield, as it can make it crack! It's been cold here in OK, but we haven't gotten any snow yet:( At least the snow seems to make the cold more bearable! lol

yeah this has happened to me too..but now we have a garage and as the mom I get it ;)
but I used hot water on my doors to get at least the driverr side open.
