Twenty-eight years ago today.
Twenty-eight years of only fond memories.
I heard them say, on the radio
That night I had just gotten home
That you had been shot.
Shot by a fan, no rather
a fanatic.
he took from the world
Their best friend.
The one who quipped and had quirky things
To say.
The one who changed our lives with your words and music and
ideals.
Ideals which have lasted the test of time.
Sounds of happy and heavy music and rhyme.
John we hardly knew ye,
A man just turned forty.
I miss you, my friend, my mentor.
Jamming with the others who went on before.
Half the band still here, and
You have George, to wile away
The hours of eternity
In sweet harmonies and heavenly delights.

Regan had just been elected, bringing with him a dark cloud that would hang over our country for another 12 years.
And then, the news that John Lennon had been shot......
I was in London, so I always think of it as the 9th as it was 4:30am over there when it happened. Everyone in the tube, on busses walking on the street or in the pubs looked like they had just lost their best friend, and they had.
I think a lot of people will feel deeply like myself and really appreciate the simplicity of your aching lyric here.
George, we have to just keep the legacy going!
Thanks for answering Question 6 of my 25 Days of Christmas Questions! I love learning more about my gather friends and enjoying the holiday spirit with them this way! Just reciprocating the comment! Thanks again!
