(For Alison H and those who loves to know about cultures)
This is an auspicious thread which I am wearing . It's called "Mangal Sutra". It's made of pure gold, strung in a yellow thread with black beads along with gold chain. It means...I am married. Indian girls wear this ornament at the time they get married.According to Hindu-Marriage there are five signs of marital status of woman.Vermillion( we put on forehead), Toe-rings,Bangles, Nose-ring and Mangal -Sutra.In a ceremony groom ties this first. This ornament has different looks in India. They are made in numerous designs and patterns.North- Indian and south-Indian Mangal sutra are different.
