So, I recently saw an article in which a fellow Gather user copy and pasted up a pretty neat story. A story in which it encourages people to "teach" the little children of the world what the "true" "old" meaning of Christmas is, a Christmas with out a retail commercialization. - About Christmas being about Jesus and only Jesus.
Well, I thought in an effort of cooperation and of learning, that if this user wanted to "teach" people about the "old meaning of Christmas" that they learned what it was first.
and I posted up a pretty polite reply (except for the end I know, but I meant it in jest and humor and not in a hateful manner)....and well my comment got removed by the article poster, strange....I don't see any reason why it should have gotten removed? What do you guys think?.
Here is the comment in question, in its entirety. (typo's have been fixed, lol.)
"Well Mr.( ), I admit this is a wonderful cheery and powerful story. unfortunately that is all it is - a story.
I could set here and make a long reply, but I'd rather just do this:
You want to "teach" the Children the "old Meaning Of Christmas" the one with out the retail commercialization? The Real Religious Significance? Well if that is the case, then I suggest you start with these helpful and informative Gather Articles:
<a href="http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?memberId=405999&articleId=281474977510441">Christmas: Yule, Saturnalia, Winter Solstice; What's the deal?</a>

<a href="http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?memberId=405999&articleId=281474977511690">Christmas: Yule, Saturnalia, Winter Solstice; What's the deal? "THE SATURNALIA AND THE FEAST OF SOL INVICTUS OR THE UNCONQUERED SUN (Part 3 - III)</a>
<a href="http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?memberId=405999&articleId=281474977526314">The Feast Of The Nativity and The Birth Of Jesus. (Christmas: Yule, Saturnalia, Winter Solstice; What's The Deal? (Part 4 - IV)..)</a>
And also if you get time, this opinion article is also pretty insightful;

Also, as far as the "symbols" you talk about goes, I'm not going to comment on the Candle, bell, sugar canes etc. However, The Star of Bethlehem (A Five Pointed Star At that - ergo, a Pentagram) has been a religious symbol and icon for many millennia before Christ was ever said to have existed and served eclectic purposes.
And as far as the "fur" tree's or Evergreen tree, it's been a symbol of the Winter Holidays for periods before Christ as well, What does an Evergreen tree have to do with a guy born in the middle east anyway? as Evergreens only grow in cold climates such as Northern Europe? hmm. The Evergreen was a symbol of life, vitality and fertility for the Northern European Heathens - the Norse Vikings and The Germanic Tribes, as in the cold dead of European Winters the evergreen was the only tree that wasn't "dead" - (it did not lose it's leaves/needles) and so the Vikings and Germans brought the tree inside to remind them of the warmer months during the Winter Solstice/Yule - which happened to take place between December 21st-25th, and they celebrated and feasted the "rebirth of the sun" for 12 days from roughly the 25th til the 6th of January (hence the 12 days of Christmas) mind you this happened century's before Christ ever was said to exist.
So if you want to teach the little Children the "original" meaning of the Holiday, teach them about the Northern European Yule, and the Roman Feasts and celebrations of the Saturnalia, Feast of Sol Invictus, and the Birth of the Persian God Mithra (who's birth was said to take place on December 25th) - as these are all pre-Christian celebrations (that some still choose to observe today) that shaped the Christian Christmas Celebration, oh did you know that Christmas was moved to Dec. 25th around the 6th Century C.E. to help convert all those Pagans? because they already had holidays at this time (the Ones I just mentioned)...and that modern Historians and Scholars both secular and Christian Religious believe that Jesus may have been Conceived sometime in December or late Winter, but that he wasn't actually born until very late spring, summer, or possibly fall.
Just some food for thought.
Now please, GTFO my internetz and take your FAIL with you. Kthx."
I have no clue why my comment was removed, I only attempted to help spread the "education" of the Children about this wonderful holiday time....like I said the only thing that may have been ambiguous is the last line, but the user could have just told me they didn't appreciate it and I would have polietly aplogized for that aspect of my comment.
Why would anyone remove a genuinly honest comment?

Odd behaviour!
Actually Jesus was born on Passover night and that is not Dec. 25th. Yes Dec 25th was chosen by the Catholic church because of the celebration that was already taking place at that time to try and convert the unbelievers.
It has become a Christian holiday in most of the world and will remain so. Yes it is a good opportunity to teach young children about Jesus. His birth was and is a significant event both in religion and in history. The large majorty of this country is some form of Christianity so it does not supprise me that we celebrate Christmas. The time of year makes little difference.
one year at work, I requested Yule off, so I could celebrate MY Holiday My WAY, and was told by my supervisor "well, Pfffft. Can't you just celebrate it on Christmas?"
Uh, No, Why don't you celebrate Christmas on the actual Winter Solstice!
See, it goes both ways and in my mind is un-fair and discriminatory, and very pompous to just assume that everyone celebrates Christmas.
This is why I get so super serious about this time of year, because I wish people would be more inclusive.
I bet if I were a Jew and Requested to be off at certain times for Hanukkah, that I'd get it.....else they'd be afraid I's sue for Religious Discrimination.....
but yet somehow because I'm some sort of eclectic Neo-Pagan/Wiccan type not letting me off on my holiday is not some sort of discrimination and not something their worried about.
I know I'm getting off on a tangent, but this is the type of stuff I'm talking about that gets me so frustrated this time of year. the "It's okay if you celebrate MY chosen Holiday, but you can't celebrate any of your own." Mentality. It simply makes me sick.
To delete you just showed that article writer was a control freak. When you write an article you should let whatever fall on it, fall on it. God knows how many times my comments were so much better than my article .
What's even funnier is it seems the person who wrote the original article in question, deleted theirs, lol probably because this article with my comment that was deleted..has gotten so many views...they didn't want to be seen as a Gather Chicken.
