I have done this. But conditions were right to have done it only once. NEAT!
It was a biting, arctic cold winter night. Dangerously cold, at least for this part of Indiana, or the country for that matter. The late evening weather is reporting a possible warm-up coming, perhaps getting up to -25 degrees. Then came the special high light ...... showing people outdoors, blowing bubbles!! In the bitter cold, the bubbles would freeze instantly. Happening to have some bubbles, and a whacko brain at 11:30 pm, out I went. The bubbles did freeze instantly. Neat. Catch them and they didn't jiggle like normal bubbles, still holding their colors, they were fragile yet hard. Flick this fragile object with your finger and it shattered like a thin glass ornament. That was my one and only escapade with frozen bubbles in the winter.
Remember, it has to be COLD for this to work. We're not talking 15 degrees, or 4 degrees, or even a wimpy -12 degrees. I can't tell you just how cold would be cold enough, but would have to guess somewhere around -45. On this particular evening, the air and bitter wind chills were at around -60. It was cold!! Perhaps bubbles would freeze at -30, but not instantly(?)
If you're in the mood for some silly winter entertainment, grab your bubbles and go play in the cold. Maybe someone can get some pictures for us. Thanks for stopping.
