OJ Simpson was sentenced today to at least 15 years in prison for armed robbery and host of other charges stemming from an incident last year in a Las Vegas hotel. Simpson and a group of men, allegedly in an attempt to recover memorabilia from a dealer, stormed into a hotel room with guns and forced the dealer from the room before taking the merchandise. The entire incident, including audio, was caught on hotel cameras. Pending appeal, it looks like Simpson will be in jail for a long time as he won't be eligible for parole until 2017, when he will be 70 years old.
Simpson's co-defendants will receive reduced sentences in a plea deal in which they testified against the former NFL great.
Simpson, of course, was acquitted in a widely watched and criticized 1995 criminal trial in the brutal slayings of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. He was found criminially negligent in the civil trial for the same crime, and still owes millions from the settlement to the Brown and Goldman families.
Simpson's lawyers, predictably, intend to appeal the sentence claiming that Simpson's notoriety due to his previous case prevented him from being able to get a fair trial.
