This whole situation is disturbing, but recently there have been more and more reports of violence among young Jews against Palestinians. These kids are the future of Israel and it's a scary future. I can understand the posturing of their national leaders, it is after all, a very tough neighborhood. But to do so little in protecting the Palestinians, the Israelis are merely giving propaganda fodder to their enemies. There is something to be said for protecting everyone in your country, regardless of ethnicity.
The history of Israel is extremely difficult to understand without years of scholarship, and even then, the field is deeply divided on key issues. However, one thing should be kept as an open discussion. Of all the peoples on the face of this earth, the Israelis should understand that protecting people from ethnic hatred is crucial to humanity. Time and time again though, they mistreat Palestinians. Granted, the extremist fringes of Palestinians make it hard for some to feel sympathetic. But, you think the Israelis could take a lesson from India. Terrorists have been pounding India for years, but they do their best to face the problem with pragmatism. They don't go off half-cocked after a terrorist attack. They respond with investigations and reason.
Could Israel do more? How could they do it? Would it take a lot of work? Would that work be well worth it in the long run?
I don't want to get into a debate on the whole Palestine/Israel issue. However, I would be interested in hearing people's thoughts on these developments. But hey, if you disagree with me, feel free to say so. I welcome it, sometimes I even change my mind.
Peace.
