I Hurt My Heart Today


 

I hurt my heart today

by falling out of love

with you as my anger

boiled and steamed hot words

undeserved and best left unsaid

yet I ignored the hurt

sweeping across your drained face

paid no heed to tears

suddenly welling from your eyes

even as I stormed away

seething about nothing of consequence

but soon enough I felt

guilt and remorse both rising

then yawning loneliness and emptiness

with the aching and yearning

announcing louder than any words

I hurt my heart today

A statement, an explanation and then a crescendo of feelings coming back to square one of the statement. I like that you kept words concise and sparse and let the reader feel the lines. In a way, it's is like a poem of desperation, and of acceptance facing the image in the mirror.

What did I say? you are human after all and here you went deep within and realized certain aspects of yourself and the other one. And I love the double meaning of the words " I hurt my heart today"
When one gets to close to a heart, s/he gets hurt somehow. Why is that? it shouldn't be that way...but.....

My friend, when we get very close to a heart, all of our and their defenses are down and thus we both are vulnerable to the vagaries of mindless mood swings. Yet an ancient truth is that what we give (be it love or hurt) we share, for giving and receiving are one and the same - hearts are joined.

To Whom It May concern seems a bit formal, so I'll just say to my Gather friends, Happy Holidays. I have had so many chores and things to do that it has been tough to find time to comment. I love to write and I try to set aside at minimum 2 hours a day just to write whatever. My thought is always of you, my audience. You are an inspiration and I try to be entertaining. Magi, I don't think anyone could have written this better. How easy it is to understand exactly how we hurt ourselves hurting the one(s) we love. This is a really poignant poem. It is well worth reading and I'm glad to have found it.
