There is, in the undertow of the past election, an insidious game being played. The oft-good man Bush played this game, and lost. So, too, the pathetic McCain. It involves the much-expected, much-overplayed, and highly subversive question:
"Where do Conservatives go from here?"
Though this is not meant to be a "trick" question, the answer seems to come as a surprise to some. Those are the People to whom this is addressed...so beware.
First- let us shift our attention to those who "overplay" the question. The subversive nature of this question is quite obvious. It is posed, initially, by those who oppose Conservatism. And, it is posed by those who HOPE that the nature of Conservatism will simply go away. It is indeed these "ex-pats," those who have aided and are complicit in softening the distinction BETWEEN Conservative and the "something-that-resembles-but-is-much-less-than," who actually believe that there is "a place we should go." If you happen to be addressed by one with this question of the latest refuge, he has identified himself.
This non-sense about "purging" Principalists from Our midst is just that; non-sense. When the term "Ideologue" is used as disparagement, to cheapen your belief in Conservative values, he who has used that term has identified himself. When you are accused of "expecting the perfect candidate," the one who attempts to deceive you has identified himself. When you are called "fool" because you "lend too much weight" to an issue such as Immigration or Abortion, he has identified himself. Give it a try!...you will be better-able to listen closely to the codespeak of the "Politician" and the "pundit;" a Medved, or a Bennett, or a Kyl; a Boehner, or a Steele, or a Leftist, and know who he Truly is. In addition, you will also be better-able to discern a lack of PRINCIPLES when the "christian," who abhors and laments the "takeover of the Conservative Movement" by Christians, vomits his bile. Or, when the Leftist Jew does the same, to His Brother. To maintain Conservative principles with a view toward IDENTIFYING yourself with Conservativism, is no Crime. It is a VIRTUE. It is a Value to be CHERISHED. It is simply the incumbent and hard work of the Conservative~
Now, let us shift our focus toward the Answer.
"Where do Conservatives go from here?"
NOWHERE! It is not the Conservative who has strayed.
But it IS the Fool, who has suffered a LACK OF VISION to abandon his Principles, and move Left, that is lost.

It is the law of this land in these United States of America we need to nourish, guard and protect for each and everyone - regardless...
If we as a Nation do not look at Politics as somethng for the Community, then we will then focus on selfserving views. This is exactly what happened here in this last Election, and the past , until this time we now have someone raised in the Marxist teachings. Even on differing views we still need to have a focus on what is best for the Community, and not what is best for me. Voting for Obama, was a vote for "What is Best for Me" and getting the devil instead.
Yes there was a lack of vision, but that lack was on both the Conservatives and the Liberals. No one of these two groups focused on more than what was best for them. So now we all have to pay the price.

The intent of the article was to POINT OUT that those "conservatives" who lost their Vision ARE NOT CONSERVATIVES!

I know I am not a Conservative, even though many on the left think I am. But even you and other Conservatives have disagreed with me in the past because of my views.
But I can see your point on the Conservatives though. Yes there was a lack of combined vision.
It sounds like you have good reason to be proud of what you do every day. Remember, that there is no welfare for single people anymore in our society. Only the single disabled person gets benefits anymore. Food subsidies are paid out for single people, however. No one has to go hungry in this society. That is a good thing. So, that leaves the families with children. They have a lifetime benefit of five years and they must get off the welfare rolls after that. That was the brainchild of President Bill Clinton. Congress approved it handily at the time. So, the welfare that is going out to society today isn't really for individuals. It is for these corporations who continually fail the country.
I don't like the "gimmee" mentality either. I think that anyone who is able should work for what they get. There is very little being handed out anymore since welfare reform of the 1990s. So, the argument is a bit outdated, Charles.
And YES! I quite agree...Mr. Maugham has said something, here, that is very profound.
Further, Sir, You are a good man.
I want You to know how much I appreciate You; I also want You to know that You, like many above, are what make Conservativism the finest movement in the World. To be bested by NONE.

This is something the Moderates deal with all the time; Liberals calling themselves Moderates, people that have no idea what is going on, calling themselve moderates... Gives us real ones a bad name.
The charlatans give everyone a bad name to begin with. They do not understand that there is a price for every action, and an action for every move. It is not a simple world we live in, and I doubt it ever has been.
This is why we must all stop and look at the big picture and analyze what is going on, then what needs to be done. Quick fixes are a bad move, and long term fixes are too slow for many, but the best way to deal with things.
Charlatans really do not care, as they want just what ever is the flavor of the day, or what will get them in the winner's circle easier.
Truth be told, it "sucks" to do the hard work, or the Right thing~.
I'm afraid, however, that we are becoming a SOFT People; I call upon ALL who have Courage, for the Pain; and Strength, for the Duration.
We Coservatives have not gone anywhere! It is our so called political leadership that has abandoned us. They have tried so hard to make themselves more appealing to the left wing that they have forgotten their Conservative principles.
I believe it is also a money issue. The cash flows to centrist candidates, because the powers that be think they have a better shot at victory, while true Conservatives are left to fen for themselves.

Lee, is this not an issue with the MEXICAN Government??? If they can continue to dump their "needy" people on the United States, why would they need to change? Are you aware that the Mexican Government distributes PAMPHLETS with instructions on how to BREAK OUR LAWS? Why improve? I submit that if we prevent them from breaking OUR Laws, and WORK with and encourage the Mexican Government to "get it together," Mexico will be able to provide FOR HERSELF.
Mexico is a beautiful Country, has plenty of natural resources, and does a BRISTLING Tourist Trade. There is NO REASON for them to be struggling economically. As long as they, and WE, allow corruption in their Government to flourish, and Illicit Trades (such as the narcotics Trade) to CONTINUE, Mexicans will go hungry.
Conservatism also includes an ACCOUNTING of RESPONSIBILITY. Their struggles should neither be our PROBLEM, nor our FAULT. We help them in COUNTLESS other ways; we are NOT responsible for all of their problems.
Lastly, imagine that you are, for example, Asian, OR Mexican, and have come LEGALLY.

It IS the leadership that has abandoned us, but how can that change? Look at "That One". The closer election time came, the closer to the center he became in order to get those votes. He played a dirty game, and plays it still. How else are conservative leaders to respond? It seems a never ending problem and this election just seemed to emphasize that.
As far as illegal immigration, yeah, I feel bad for some that actually need the money, food, help. I also know it's not just innocent families coming over here. But America is my country and we need to take care of our own people first. This SHOULD be viewed as a problem within Mexico, not a problem within the US. If Mexico is offering its citizens information on how to come here and use our services, then they can foot the bill for the services that they use. Everybody is talking about our financial problems and we're willing to offer services to illegal aliens?

And, Liberals are trying to encourage it (of course). True Conservatives are not fooled. Those who believe that a move toward the "Moderate" is in order are CONFUSED. They are NOT Conservatives.

Here You have touched on what incites in me, perhaps the greatest ire. I have been at a loss, for as long as I can remember, on how one can reconcile their Judaism, or their Christianity, with liberalism. It is incompatible.
When I hear seculars, "progressives," follow and preach a left-wing ideology, it bothers me. When I witness it from a fellow Jew, I am filled with a righteous anger that You cannot even fathom.
There are many issues that should hold great weight with those who claim True Christianity or Judaism as their own...Israel is one, of course. Another is abortion. Many do not see how the two are related. To me it is so obvious, even a blind man could see…
I am currently helping a dear friend of mine spearhead a nonprofit that will provide assistance to pregnant, unwed Jewish women who would otherwise abort. Mark-John~ upon learning the statistics, I was quite literally, in tears. Did You know that 28%... 28 PERCENT of Jewish pregnancies end in abortion, for causes UNRELATED to rape, incest, or health concerns of either mother or child?
How can my Brothers reconcile this against the Halakha (Jewish Law), against what is in their Soul? Against the backdrop of the Holocaust, the Shoah...? 6 million died…out of 15 million worldwide... rendering our population irreparably damaged. More than 15,000 Jewish babies are aborted each year. That is almost half a million since 1980....and counting.
A large part of the reason for this, I believe, is that many Jews today have become secular. They are unconcerned with their culture, their religion, their History, and the strife of their own. The Holocaust is but a tale of horror that they have heard from grandparents and distant relatives -- a tale that their privileged, spoiled, sheltered American lives have turned them impervious to. They are misguided, self-apologetic for being hated in the world, and haven't dignity, nor loyalty...they haven't a clue of all that was scarified -- all that was sacrificed, for them to be born here. In turn, they have done all they can to shed their G-d Given Gift and blend with the masses. For this, I am ashamed. I am saddened. I am furious that these same people dare call themselves “Jew” when their words and deeds are anything but.
I, too, have always been a fan of Rand save for her atheism and some of the very detrimental ideas that it fostered (ideas that I believe, detracted from her brilliance). She was a Jew, of course…
I think of myself, I think of those close to me – all first generation, or immigrants from countries where Jews were persecuted…slaughtered…exiled… countries where your passport contained not your nationality, but the word Jewish …"Evrey" and with all the familiar implications of a yellow armband. When people like Flake and DeMint get some power in the "reformation" of the Repub party, they might get my attention. If they don't, then we will continue to have upfront screwing over by the Dems who don't lie about what they are going to do to us taxpayers!
I certainly agree; Conservatism HARDLY resides within the "republican" Party at the moment. And MUCH to their Peril...and as long as they deny the STRENGTH of their base, they will continue to be losers. "Party" means nothing to me; Values and Ideals are the barometer.
