And there are plenty of examples of these funds being directed in ways that don't entirely make sense.

Bailouts should not be allowed, we are a capitalist economy not socialist or communist where business is dictated to. Corporate cons broke their own system and its up to them to fix it not the taxpayers.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the $700 billion. At first, they were going to help the mortgage industry, then the mortgages, and now just the banks. I don't think that there was clear plan on how to solve the financial crunch at all. It seems to be all about spreading the wealth around with the banks.
Thankfully, Obama is engaging experts instead of political cronies. Hopefully, that will make a difference.

Another question is why is Dodd being allowed to run free when their is proof that he has taken over a milli0n and one half dollars from banking lobbyists when he is head of the banking commission? I suppose that's not a conflict of interest or Dodd getting sweet deals from the mortgage companies.

The press (no fan of Bush) counted the votes afterward and found Bush won Florida in 2000.
I agree with you, but officially the bill did originate in the house. The Senate amended a House bill (rewrote the whole thing) and then sent it back to the House. I think that's ridiculous and the courts should throw it out, but the courts don't seem to adhere to the Constitution.

The only House democrat rep that did not vote for it was Courtney which make me proud that I voted for him twice now.
Another good question about the supreme court is why have they allowed Bush and congress to dissolve the bill of rights? I do not recognise the patriot act or homeland security and would die before submitting to either criminal act.
He was the only Rep in CT to vote against it. There were others outside CT voting against it as well.

No the press does not have any official standing, but the Miami Herald recounted the votes and Bush had more votes. FYI, they endorsed Al Gore (NOT Bush). Bush also won the official vote. So he WAS elected. Gore wanted Florida to recount 4 heavily Democrat leaning counties. The Supreme Court said that would violate Equal Protection in a 7-2 decision. I don't recall Gore leading the vote.
