As a vet I've also seen the danger that Christmas trees can represent to cats. I've seen traumas from trees falling on cats, cut mouths or paws from broken glass ornaments, and even had to send cats to surgery for eating bulbs, garland and tinsel.
So today I would like to share some important safety tips to ensure that you will be aware of potential dangers and fix them before they become a problem or a "climbing toy" for your cat.
The article is full of tips on how to create the perfect tree in your home that is cat-safe.

One final reminder, make sure that you have a Christmas present for your kitty under the tree. Yes, cats like Christmas presents too!

For most of them, ONCE was enough, usually their first xmas, but they all had to do it. After their turn at pulling down the tree they were content to play with one of the baubles on the lowest branch.
I do recommend that you forgo hanging "icicles" on your tree if you have a cat, they may try to eat them.
I also think it is a good idea to give your pets a new toy at the time you set up your tree and decorate your house for the holidays. Having a new toy of their own can help keep them from playing with the tree.
