Everywhere I go on Gather, people seem excited about snow.
When I was young, I had many romantic notions about snow... getting to stay home from school and play outside in the snow was one of my favorite things. In the first book I wrote, there is a romantic Christmas Eve proposal... the snow is falling softly and the whole world made beautiful by those tiny little ice crystals...
No more... I have come to hate snow... driving in it, hoping my husband will make it home safely when it storms (he drives an hour each way to get to work each day), having to cancel events I really want to attend, and missing people I really want to see because there is too much snow.
I get extremely tense when I have to drive in snow - the combination of poor visibility, slippery roads, crazy drivers and deep ditches makes me a nervous wreck.
Add to my fears, the chance of slipping and falling on icy walkways. Last year I was standing on a snow covered driveway, saying goodbye to my parents, who were in dad's pick-up truck, and all of the sudden - whoosh. My feet flew out from under me and I landed flat on my back. This, I do not need.
From a business perspective, snowstorms equate to losing money because my customers can't get here safely. It is very frustrating when I have the food all prepared and ready to serve, and then a storm hits. Last winter was so horrible because of the bad weather, and I lost so many thousands of dollars because of snow that it will be a long time before I can see beauty in it again.
What do you think? To snow, or not to snow?

I won't let snow keep me in the house~
I am hoping when you come West -- to get away from the snow! -- it might be possible to meet you in person? I know you will have a busy schedule, but perhaps I can catch you on the fly? One of my friends who lives in Turkey and Greece most of the year will probably be staying with us, but I know she would enjoy meeting you too (she is in the tourism business as well)!
I grew up in upstate NY and was used to snow and loved it. Then I went to College in Kansas eventually married a man from Mass I met in Kansas and we lived there forever. Or so it seemed. Kansas didn't have snow and when it did snow it paralyzed the area until it melted. We would holiday in Colorado to ski and enjoy the white stuff.
Then we moved to Indiana and we had snow and I remembered through my children’s eyes what it was like to have fun in winter. We played in it every chance there was; we had snow weeks, not just snow days and loved every minute.
Here in Canada we see a ton of it. You won’t find me complaining I love every minute of it. Everyone expects it and slows down on the highways; the plows are out in the middle of night and do a darn good job. Canadians like upstate New Yorkers embrace winter and remember what it was like to be a kid and let it snow let it snow let it snow…
It’s here – so you can do two things. Love it or hate it…I choose Love it - Happy sledding and skiing.

I can handle a bit of a blast, but only to a certain extent. I love a good blizzard, as long as everyone I know and love is settled snugly into their homes and we all have enough supplies on hand. Once the storm is over, I'd like it to be 80 degrees.
If I am driving - no thanks. Though I must say that Germany and Austria clear roads to black very quickly (the Swiss do not - so I avoid driving there in winter...)

When I lived in Illinois the snow was hip deep in the winter - I'm only 5'1 and I hated it.
It looks good as long as you're on vacation and I love a nice crisp walk in the woods and in the field after snow. But, after three to five days - I'm over it, like when it turns to ice or turns to slush.
