My sister called me yesterday afternoon, we talk atleast once a day. This time she had a specific question that she wasn't sure of the answer. She's a nanny of twin boys who just turned 9 years old. She's been their nanny since they were 6 months old. My sister also has a daughter who just turned 4 years old.
The kids were playing and Asheligh did something and one of the boys called her ignorant! My sister immediately told him not to talk that way because it wasn't nice and he began to argue the fact that what he said was a correct statement.
My sister and I know what ignorant means, however neither one of us think that it's possible for a 4 year old child to be ignorant. They simply just aren't old enough to know any better!
What are your thoughts?

Pay it Forward.
We are all ignorant about something and may-haps the little name caller should have his areas of ignorance gently pointed out to him as an example of what the word he is using really means.
Nintendo DS Lite Onyx
Anyone can be ignorant, but it is generally not exactly the correct word when referring to a child, or a condition the child may be in, at any time during it's youth. It generally refers to an adult that is old enough to know better, or to have gained knowledge beyond a certain level, yet still holds to magical, or supersticious thinking, especially if and when knowledge is readily available.
He's 9, he doesn't know what he's saying. If you take the word for only it's definition then yes a 4 year old is ignorant, and so is a 6 month old for that matter. He must have heard that word at took it literally. He needs to be taught what "appropriate" means.
But, the real issue here is the name-calling, which is not very nice at all.
Thanks for posting to Endless Points
To me, it sounds like maybe he overheard the word, or even a discussion of some sort about making these "correct statements" possibly even from a teacher in school. Since I don't know the whole situation as it played out, it's hard to judge what the boy meant.
And that is that!
I am sure the 4 yr old was just acting her age. The boys probably do not understand that.
